A Tooling Technician in a plant is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the proper functioning of tools, molds, jigs, fixtures, and other equipment used in manufacturing processes. The Tooling Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that manufacturing processes run smoothly and
efficiently, contributing to the overall productivity and quality of the plant.
We have two positions available: 1-Afternoon Shift; 1-Night Shift
Job Responsibilities
- Tool Maintenance and Repair: Inspecting tools and equipment to identify wear, damage, or malfunctions. Performing routine maintenance and repairs to keep them in optimal working condition,
- Tool Setup and Calibration: Setting up tools and equipment for production runs, ensuring they are properly calibrated and aligned to produce parts within specified tolerances. Inspect new tools according to company standards.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnosing issues with tools and equipment during production and implementing solutions to minimize downtime.
- Fabrication and Modification: Modifying existing tools or fabricating new ones to meet specific production needs. This may involve working with various materials and using machines like lathes, mills, and grind.
- Documentation and Records: Keeping detailed records of maintenance activities, tool usage, and repairs. Ensuring that all tools and equipment are compliant with safety and quality standards. Maintain all related documentation to TS16949 standards. Maintain all standard work including Mold Tag System, Mold Storage Standards, etc.
- Collaboration: Working closely with engineers, production managers, and other technicians to optimize tooling performance and support continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure there are no quality or production interruptions or errors due to lack of giving or seeking information.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhering to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment. Ensuring that all tools and equipment meet industry standards and regulations. Safely operate crane to handle tools. Follow lockout/tagout procedures as well as safety rules 100% of the time. Take action to promptly correct or remove all workplace hazards and unsafe work conditions.
- Training and Support: Providing training and support to production staff on the proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is the minimum requirement. Preference for those candidates with any certificates or diplomas from a technical or vocational school in fields such as machining, tool and die making, or mechanical engineering
Skills And Experience
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using machining tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machines. Understanding of tooling principles, materials, and processes. Ideally 3-5 years Tool and Die Repair experience.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to troubleshoot and repair tools and equipment. Ability to operate milling machine, lathe, band saw, and other tool shop machinery.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose issues and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations.
- Attention to Detail: Precision and accuracy in setting up, calibrating, and maintaining tools to ensure high-quality production.
- Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Computer Skills: Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software and computer-aided
manufacturing (CAM) software can be beneficial.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication with engineers, production staff, and other
technicians to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working
environment.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and perform tasks that require
manual dexterity. Must be able to climb and crawl to make adjustments to tools while in press.
