Base pay range

$33.00/hr - $36.00/hr

The Tooling Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and fabrication of molds, dies, jigs, fixtures, and tooling used in the manufacturing process. This role requires expertise in machining, precision measurement, and working with CNC equipment to ensure optimal production efficiency and product quality. The Tooling Technician will collaborate with vendor, engineering and production teams to support manufacturing operations..

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair tools, dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures to ensure high-quality production standards.
  • Perform scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance on vibratory welding equipment, tooling and molds.
  • Analyze blueprints and CAD models to repair or modify tooling.
  • Select appropriate materials for tooling depending on the intended use.
  • Develop and create tooling prototypes and production tooling.
  • Operate and maintain precision machines (CNC mills, lathes, grinders) to manufacture tooling.
  • Inspect and measure tooling, molds, and dies for accuracy and quality control.
  • Identify issues with production tools or molds and make necessary adjustments or repairs.Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve tooling performance and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot problems during the manufacturing process and recommend or implement solutions.
  • Work closely with engineers and designers to improve tooling and production efficiency.
  • Design, fabricate, and modify tooling components as needed for production optimization.
  • Perform regular inspections on tools, dies, and molds to ensure that they meet production standards and tolerances.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of tooling maintenance, repairs, and modifications.
  • Train and support operators and junior level technicians in best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company quality standards.
  • Work closely with vendors and suppliers to obtain necessary parts and materials.
  • Keep up to date with the latest technology, techniques, and trends in tooling and mold making.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education
  • High school diploma or GED is generally required.
  • Technical certifications or associate degrees in machining, tool and die making, mold making, or mechanical engineering are often preferred.
  • Skills and Experience
  • Experience in machining or toolmaking. Minimum of 3~5 years of
  • Familiarity with precision measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
  • Experience with CNC machines, lathes, and milling machines.
  • Blueprint reading / 3D CAD viewing and the ability to interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and schematics.
  • Strong knowledge of materials (metals, plastics, and composites) and how to process them.
  • Knowledge of tolerances and fit.
  • Ability to work with molds, dies, jigs, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Welding and metalworking skills.
  • Computer skills, particularly with CAD / CAM software and other design or machining software.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Background in plastic pallet manufacturing, vibratory welding or related industries are highly desired.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Certifications
  • Certifications from recognized industry bodies (e.g., National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS)) are highly desired.
  • Additional certifications related to safety, machining, and quality standards are also helpful.

Skilled in using various tools and equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, drills, precision measuring instruments, and other tooling-related machinery.
