Job summary

Amcor in Oklahoma City is seeking a skilled Tool Maker to repair and rebuild production equipment and improve machinery conditions. The ideal candidate must be knowledgeable in operating and maintaining production machinery, including molds and dies, and document all repairs and maintenance accurately.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, and a certified journeyman status or willingness to undergo an apprenticeship program. Comprehensive benefits are available.

Job Description

PURPOSE: To rebuild and repair production equipment, rebuild tooling, to improve their running condition, along with working on molds and dies that are running in machines in the production area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Repair and rebuild Production machinery including molds and dies.

  2. Make components and changes to existing components in a timely manner and correct them to an engineered drawing.

  3. Ability to document machined parts with an inspection sheet.

  4. Assist the Group Leaders and Lead people in planning work in the shop.

  5. Assist the Group Leaders and Lead people in sending work to outside vendors.

  6. Keep the Tool Room area in a clean and orderly manner.

  7. Assist other departments where your skills are needed.

  8. Keep the machines running as efficiently as possible while they are running in production

  9. Perform mold cleaning with repairs that are needed.

  10. Record in the JDE PEM for PM’s and or Lotus Notes work order system any maintenance that is completed on every mold.

  11. Inform the Scheduling Department when there is a mold problem that is going to be down for any length of time.

  12. Conduct any other tasks assigned by the Group Leaders and Technical Manager.

  13. Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists’ hand tools.

  14. Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators. Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.

  15. Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.

Operate metal or plastic forming equipment. Operate grinding equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school education / GED equivalent.

  2. Must be a Certified Journeyman Tool Maker or willing to complete an apprenticeship program.

  3. Ability to lift 75 pounds a minimum of 10 times per day and lift 50-75 lbs. over shoulder height occasionally.

  4. Ability to occasionally climb on and off a forklift safely and without assistance.

  5. Ability to safely operate a forklift in high traffic, low clearance areas while not posing a safety risk to others. Must not be at risk of sudden alterations in consciousness.

  6. Hearing sufficiently to recognize and respond to shouted warnings, alarms, and horns on forklifts.

  7. Able to occasionally climb ladders safely and without assistance. Able to work at heights. (With or without fall protection). Must not be at risk of sudden alterations in consciousness.

  8. Verbal communication is adequate to use a radio and or paging system to contact other co-workers in other areas of the complex.

  9. Able to use both hands for effective manipulation of tools/parts.

  10. Able to work overhead or in awkward positions on a frequent basis.

  11. Ability to push/pull loads of approx. 75 lbs. at a minimum of 10 times per day/shift.

  12. Stereoptic vision of 20/40 or better and peripheral vision of 70 degrees or greater and ability to read 10–12-point font at a distance of 12-18 inches. Able to complete an "Ishihara" color vision test.

  13. Able to stand/walk for up to 12-hour shift.
