Job summary

Rehrig Pacific in Erie, PA is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to service injection molds, perform preventive maintenance, tool changes, and mold repairs, ensuring high uptime and process reliability across our production lines.

You will read blueprints, set up CNC mills and lathes, repair hot runner systems, troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical issues, and train teammates while following safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 5+ years of experience in injection molding/tool and die or equivalent.
• Proficient in repairs of hot runner systems.
• Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to define problems and resolve quickly.

Responsibilities

• Perform weekly and monthly Preventive Maintenance procedures on molds and tooling.
• Perform in-press mold Preventative Maintenance per schedule.
• Repair injection molds to ensure maximum uptime, including hot runner systems.
• Troubleshoot issues and determine root cause, collaborating with other departments as needed.
• Read blueprints and machine mold components using tool steel and aluminum.
• Set up CNC mills, standard mills and lathes to machine mold components.
• Disassemble molds and hot runners for maintenance and repairs.
• Teach new skills to other department members and maintain safety/quality standards.
• Complete all documentation accurately and as required.

Job description

Purpose of Role

Safely and efficiently perform varying levels of preventative maintenance, tooling changeovers, and mold repairs on injection molds. This role is critical in supporting customer expectations and driving plant metrics such as production efficiency by ensuring the highest possible reliability and uptime.

Areas of Accountabilities

• Perform weekly and monthly Preventive Maintenance procedures to ensure that all molds are maintained to company standards and that all tooling is maintained in top operating condition.
• Perform in-press mold Preventative Maintenance per schedule.
• Perform Check and Make Ready mold preparations per schedule.
• Repair injection molds to ensure that all molds operate at maximum potential, including electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, basic tool and die and repair / rebuild of hot runner systems.
• Troubleshoot issues, both in and out of the press, and determine root cause (e.g. core issues, sticking parts, hydraulic cylinder problems, water leaks, etc.). This may require collaboration with other departments if the issue is not clearly a mold issue.
• Maintain molding surfaces to proper surface finish to ensure proper part release.
• Read blueprints to machine individual mold components as needed out of tool steel and aluminum.
• Setup of CNC mills, standard mills and lathes to machine mold components.
• Disassemble molds and hot runners for periodic maintenance and repairs.
• Teach new skills to other members of the department / plant.
• Perform work by following all safety and quality standards.
• Complete all documentation accurately and as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in injection molding/tool and die or equivalent.
• Proficient in repairs of hot runner systems.
• Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to define problems and resolve quickly.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
• Proficient in the use of lathe, mill, CNC, cranes and rigging.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Basic machining skills.
• Forklift certified.
• Overhead crane experience.
• Familiar with hot runner systems, especially valve gate systems.
• Experience with large molds, 40,000 to 90,000 lbs.
• Familiar with stack molds.
• Basic knowledge of electrical wiring required for proximity sensors and limit switches.
• Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic functions.
• Basic knowledge of mold building materials, surface finishes, tolerances, and design principals.
• Ability to function well within a team setting.
