Job Summary:

The Tooling Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and managing the sourcing of stamping, plastic injection molding and automation tooling. Tooling Supplier Development Engineer works within a cross-functional engineering team, dedicated to the design, development, and implementation of products, processes, and tooling to produce precision parts. This role requires both technical expertise in tooling processes and strong supplier management skills, focusing on high-quality tooling solutions, optimizing efficiency, cost, and resource allocation.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Sourcing & Vendor Management: Identify and evaluate potential tooling suppliers or service providers, managing the sourcing process to secure high-quality tools at optimal cost and delivery terms. Foster strong relationships with tooling suppliers, ensuring clear communication, performance tracking, and adherence to project timelines and budgets.
  • Tooling Design and Build Oversight: Oversee the design, development, and fabrication of tooling with external vendors, ensuring tooling solutions meet customer specifications, quality standards, production timelines and budget.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams (product design, manufacturing, quality assurance, etc.) to align tooling development with overall project requirements and production goals.
  • Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives in tooling development and supplier performance, exploring innovative solutions and new technologies that enhance efficiency. Focus on identifying opportunities for cost savings in tooling design and build processes while maintaining quality, performance, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure that tooling suppliers adhere to required quality standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements (especially important in industries like medical and automotive).

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven experience in tooling design, vendor sourcing, and supplier management.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, stamping, machining).
  • Knowledge of quality control standards and regulatory compliance, especially in medical and automotive sectors.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of tool design experience in stamping or plastic injection molding.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
