Job summary

Amazon Leo in Redmond, WA is seeking a Tooling Engineer to support tooling from R&D through production, developing assembly and testing equipment for satellite hardware. You will translate team needs into user-friendly, cost-effective tools while managing projects, schedules, and fabrication and commissioning in manufacturing.

Job description

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

The Tooling Engineer will support the program on path from R&D, through design validation, into production. You will develop, design, analyze, and implement custom tooling and equipment required for assembling and testing (QTP/ATP) the satellite. You will need to convert the requests from various teams into systems that are easy to use, cost effective, and accurate. In addition, you will be responsible for project management, cost estimate and scheduling. You will manage and support fabrication, testing and commissioning of the tooling into manufacturing.

This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you'll work with leaders in multiple technology areas. You'll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you'll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product's performance, quality and cost. About the team

Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to un-served and under-served communities around the world.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience with CAD Design of complex systems including 3D modeling, drawings, and GD&T
  • 1+ years of experience of structural analysis including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience designing material handling equipment that interfaces with aircraft
  • Strong background in the design of mechanism, bolted and welded structures, assembly fixtures, alignment fixtures, test fixtures, rigging, and material handling
  • Design analysis experience with stiffness/strength, structural dynamics, weldments, and bolted structures.
  • Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials used in assembly tooling
  • Experience with NX 3D modeling package and Simcenter 3D FEA simulation.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
