Job summary

Spectrum Plastics Group in Utah is seeking a mechanical engineer to lead extrusion process development for medical device manufacturing. You will design tooling, run verification activities, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

The role requires a BA/BS in engineering and 3+ years in extrusion or molding, with hands-on production experience, CAD/Minitab proficiency, and a working knowledge of ISO 13485.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field preferred.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience in medical device manufacturing and/or extrusion or molding processes is required.
• Experience with CNC fabrication and machining processes is a plus, but not required.
• Hands-on, team-oriented approach with a strong commitment to supporting production operations.
• Solid understanding of plastic materials and extrusion processing techniques.
• Proficient in documentation practices; familiarity with ISO 13485 standards preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CAD software, and Minitab.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate directly with customers to develop and commercialize products.
• Develop extrusion processes while considering proper equipment size and downstream equipment.
• Perform statistical analysis and use results to develop robust processes.
• Develop protocols, test methods, and reports for verification and validation activities.
• Design and implement tooling for new extruded products and related equipment.
• Independently operate equipment and train others in proper use.
• Provide documentation and samples to vendors for equipment/tooling design.
• Plan and coordinate selection, installation, and qualification of new capital equipment for IQ/OQ.
• Develop and drive project plans with tasks, timelines, and budgets.
• Support quotes by outlining activities and timing for new product introduction.
