SMC Ltd. is a globally recognized premium supplier to the medical market with locations worldwide. We are seeking a Tooling Engineer at I, II, or III level to support sustaining and new molding projects, providing internal cost estimates and managing mold procurement from quotes to delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 0-3 years of engineering experience; internships, co-ops, or relevant manufacturing experience are preferred.
  • 3-7 years of experience in injection molding, tooling engineering, mold design, mold manufacturing, or tooling project management.
  • Experience working with tooling suppliers and manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of mold design principles and injection molding processes.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage mold procurement process from quoting through design, construction, and mold debug.
  • Manage current tool suppliers, and develop appropriate new suppliers as required.
  • Schedule and track all tool deliveries. Report mold progress to Project Engineers and ensure on time delivery.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance and reliability.
  • Conduct internal mold design reviews to ensure appropriate design and compliance with mold building standards.
  • Implement tooling changes as required to comply with customer quality specifications.
  • Support the sales function by participating in customer meetings and product design reviews.

Salary Range: $75,000.00 To $135,000.00 Annually

Job Summary:
The Tooling Engineer I/II/III supports sustaining and new molding projects by providing internal tooling cost estimates, managing mold procurement activities, coordinating external tool suppliers, and ensuring tooling projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality requirements. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment by following all company safety policies and procedures.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 0-3 years of engineering experience; internships, co-ops, or relevant manufacturing experience are preferred.
  • Strong desire to learn injection molding, mold design, tooling procurement, and project management.
  • Basic understanding of CAD software; SolidWorks experience is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 3-7 years of experience in injection molding, tooling engineering, mold design, mold manufacturing, or tooling project management.
  • Experience working with tooling suppliers and manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of mold design principles and injection molding processes.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in injection molding with emphasis on mold making, mold design, tooling procurement, and supplier management.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex tooling projects from concept through production.
  • Strong technical communication, presentation, and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to analyze issues, make sound decisions, and implement effective solutions.
  • Experience conducting mold design reviews and mentoring less-experienced engineers preferred.

Additional Requirements (All Levels)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience within medical device manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of scientific molding principles and injection molding processes.
  • Familiarity with validation and regulatory requirements in a medical manufacturing environment.

ADA Requirements:

  • Stand, walk, bend, squat, twist, reach or otherwise move frequently
  • Occasional repetitive motion and grasping
  • Occasional climbing to reach areas on machines or racks
  • Lift, move or otherwise transfer up to 50 lbs. occasionally, >20 lbs. frequently
  • Typically sits, grasps items or performs keyboarding for occasional operation of a computer
  • Exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards which may require respiratory protection
  • Travel by air or car frequently
