Job summary

DuPont™ Spectrum™ in the United States is seeking an engineer to design, develop, procure, and support silicone tooling and processing equipment. You will work with mechanical, product, and process teams to transition equipment from concept to production.

You will coordinate mold and tooling projects, lead design reviews, and support continuous improvement of tooling and processes, ensuring high quality, low-cost silicone parts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Ability to design tooling and moderately complex silicone parts.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Well organized, enthusiastic with high energy and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and rely on experience for decisions.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement, lean manufacturing, SPC, and process capability.
  • Proven track record developing tooling for silicone production.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate tooling and equipment qualification with cross‑functional teams.
  • Troubleshoot production tooling issues and coordinate repairs during development.
  • Support production through maintenance and continuous improvement of tooling.
  • Perform minor tooling repairs in the on‑site shop.
  • Provide process development support for tooling.
  • Identify and evaluate external tooling and equipment suppliers.
  • Lead mold design reviews with tool vendors.
  • Manage tooling projects including mold builds, validation, and large equipment.
  • Implement cost‑effective tool design changes.
  • Support DFM/FMEA activities with customers and suppliers.
  • Provide status reports to management and customers.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure timely project completion.

Job description

Job Purpose

Responsible for the design, development, procurement, and support of silicone processing equipment and tooling (including molding, extrusion, and related technologies). This role plans, designs, and coordinates the manufacture of tools and equipment that meet product and process specifications. Works closely with mechanical, product, and process engineering teams to transition equipment from concept through validation to a qualified production process.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional team members as needed during tooling and equipment qualification, sampling, and final part approval.
  • Troubleshoot issues with production tooling and equipment, coordinate and execute repair activity during development and modification phases.
  • Support production through ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement of tooling.
  • Perform minor tooling repairs utilizing onsite machine shop capabilities.
  • Provide manufacturing process development support for new and existing tooling.
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop external tooling and equipment suppliers as needed.
  • Lead and coordinate mold design reviews with tool vendors.
  • Manage tooling and equipment projects, including mold builds, validation, and large equipment such as presses and extruders.
  • Coordinate implementation of cost‑effective tool design changes.
  • Support DFM/FMEA activities internally and with customers and suppliers.
  • Provide status reports to management and customers as needed.
  • Provide support to project teams as needed.
  • Partner cross‑functionally to ensure timely project completion.
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers as needed.
  • Perform a variety of complex tasks using experience and judgment.
  • May lead and direct the work of others in various projects and assignments.

Qualifications
Required
  • Applicable bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Ability to design tooling and moderately complex silicone parts.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Well organized, enthusiastic, high energy, and strong work ethic.
  • Self‑confident and comfortable with ambiguity; relies on experience to make expert recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of quality improvement, lean manufacturing methods, statistical process controls, and process capability.
  • Proven track record of developing tooling and equipment for the production of high‑quality, low‑cost silicone parts.
  • Medical device background.
  • Understands lean manufacturing.
  • Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
  • Ability to problem‑solve, identify errors and deficiencies, and perform research independently.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to their job function using pre‑established guidelines and instructions.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness.

Preferred
  • Participation in a professional organization with engineering relevance (e.g., ASME, SME, IIE, ISO, ASTM).
  • Machining experience with at least 10 years of hands‑on experience involving specification, procurement, debug, and qualification of tooling and equipment for silicone processing (mill, extrude, mold, bond).
  • Experience in manufacturing or with medical devices, especially silicone processing.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing.
Working Conditions

Works under general supervision. Requires light physical activity performing non‑strenuous daily activities. Approximately 40% of the time will require standing and walking on the production floor, where wearing protective clothing might be necessary. About 60% of the time will be spent working at a desk and/or computer.
