Job summary

U.S. Tsubaki Automotive is hiring for a die setup technician in Ohio. You will study blueprints, plan operations, and set up tooling to produce precision parts.

You will work with grinders and shop equipment, troubleshoot tool performance, and ensure high-precision finishes. The role requires strong math, problem solving, and teamwork in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Technical schooling a plus.
  • 5+ years in a machine shop with die assembly/installation.
  • Experience with grinders and related equipment.
  • Math skills up to basic trig.
  • Mechanical aptitude to understand processes.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and troubleshoot.

Responsibilities

  • Studies and interprets blueprints to visualize final form of die/part and plans operation sequence.
  • Works from prints or instructions to copy or fit parts.
  • Lifts, positions, and secures parts to be machined using hoists, vises, and fixtures.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as grinders and other equipment.
  • Plans tooling setup considering materials, tolerances, tools, coolants, and grinding dimensions.
  • Verifies dimensions and clearances with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other gauges.
  • Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools and dies using wrenches and presses.
  • Troubleshoots poor tool performance and suggests improvements.
  • Inventories and evaluates alternative cutting tools and shop supplies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Studies and interprets blueprints to visualize final form of die, part or tool, and plans sequence of operations to achieve desired end result
  • Works from prints, sketches, verbal or written instructions, or from existing part to be copied or fitted
  • Lifts, positions, and secures parts to be machined on surface plate or worktable, using hoist, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as manual grinders and other equipment.
  • Plans the set up and operation of tooling considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and grinding dimensions.
  • Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts, using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, dial indicators, and gage blocks
  • Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools and dies, using wrenches, hammers, arbor or hydraulic presses
  • Trouble shoots poor performing tools, identifying deficiencies and suggesting improvements
  • Inventories, requests, and investigates alternative cutting tools and shop supplies
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered
  • Technical schooling a plus
  • 5+ years working in machine shop environment with die assembly and installations
  • Experience with grinders and other related equipment
  • Math skills up to basic trigonometry (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, finding an angle or tangent)
  • Mechanical aptitude to understand how processes operate
  • Technical skills and experience to solve complex problems and trouble shoot
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills to foresee issues with designs or processes and come up with alternate solutions
  • Attention to detail to ensure the highest level of precision in finished work
  • Time management and having a sense of urgency for the jobs at hand
  • Ability to work with others in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
