Job summary

Smith Industries is seeking a dependable Tool Room Attendant to help keep tools and equipment tracked, maintained, and ready for use. You will issue and receive tools, monitor inventory, inspect gear, and maintain a safe, organized tool room.

The role requires standing for long periods, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate with supervisors, maintenance, and purchasing to ensure tools are available for scheduled work while following all safety policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn API quality standards and company policies.
  • Strong attention to detail and dependability.
  • Ability to work with employees, supervisors, maintenance and purchasing.
  • Experience in tool room, warehouse, inventory, manufacturing or industrial environment preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Issue tools and equipment to employees and contractors and assist employees in selecting the appropriate tools for each task.
  • Track tool check-outs and returns using logs, software, or databases and follow up on outstanding items.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies and perform routine inventory checks and audits.
  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate the ordering or replenishment of tools and supplies as needed.
  • Inspect tools before and after use for damage, wear, or defects.
  • Perform basic tool maintenance, including cleaning, sharpening, and lubricating, and coordinate repairs or replacements when necessary.
  • Ensure applicable tools are properly calibrated and meet company safety and quality requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly labeled tool room with tools stored in their designated locations.
  • Monitor tool room access and enforce established check-out, sign-out, and security procedures.
  • Assist with identifying and resolving missing or lost tool issues.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to tool usage, inventory, maintenance, and missing items.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, maintenance, and purchasing to ensure tools and equipment are available for scheduled work.
  • Follow all company safety policies, wear required PPE, and immediately report hazards, defective equipment, and incidents.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when work cannot be performed safely.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a tool room, warehouse, inventory, manufacturing, or industrial environment is preferred but not required


Physical Requirements


  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 90% of the workday

  • Ability to occasionally bend, squat, and climb ladders or stairs

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 40 pounds

  • Ability to accurately judge weights, distances, and heights
