Job summary

Midway Products Group, INC. is seeking an experienced Tooling Engineer to contribute to APQP activities for new product launches and continuous improvement projects. You will support tooling design, fixture development, and tool shop validations to ensure specifications and production readiness.

The role requires six years in tooling, with tool and die experience and stamping plant exposure. Lean manufacturing knowledge is preferred, and you will coordinate with skilled trades to resolve tooling

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of a two year College Technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Six years experience in the field; Tool and Die making preferred.
  • Experience in stamping plants preferred; Lean Manufacturing knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in APQP activities for product launches at corporate and plant levels.
  • Contribute in MOS activities for Continuous Improvement, including CI teams for processes, scrap reduction, and metal savings.
  • Participate in tooling design reviews and approvals to ensure feasibility and production readiness; follow tooling standards.
  • Represent the company in tool shop run offs to ensure conformance to design specs and standards.
  • Coordinate plant activities for homeline tryouts of new tooling to meet PPAP dates.
  • Provide engineering guidance to Skilled Trades for tooling problems and maintenance.
  • Design special tooling and fixtures as required.
  • Support Lean initiatives and cost reduction programs through tooling and process engineering.
  • Assist in maintaining engineering documents and spare parts for tools and fixtures.
  • Lead work cell rearrangement improvements with Lean concepts.
  • Identify and record problems related to product, process, and quality system.
  • Perform other essential job functions as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  • Participate and contribute in Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities for product launches both at the Corporate and Plant levels.

  • Participate and contribute in MOS (Midway Operating Systems) activities as required for Continuous Improvement i.e. Champion Team activities for C.I. In Processes, Scrap Reduction, and Metal Savings when assigned.

  • Participate and contribute in tooling design reviews and approvals including: Engineering changes to assure feasibility, production worthiness, and meeting product design intent as well as Midway Products Group Tooling and Fixture Standards.

  • Authorized to participate as company representative in tool shop run offs to assure that tooling fixtures meet the design specifications and conformance to company build standards and production performance standards.

  • Coordinate as required plant activities for homeline tryouts of new tooling and fixtures to assure the PPAP dates are met.

  • Provide Engineering expertise, direction and assistance as required or requested to the Skilled Trades in resolving tooling and related problems.

  • Designs special tooling and fixtures as required.

  • Contribute as required Tool and Process Engineering expertise to achieve plant performance objectives and LTA Cost Reduction programs.

  • Assists in maintaining the department's Engineering documents and records.

  • Assist in the development and the maintenance of spare tooling, details, and parts for all new and existing tools, fixtures, and special equipment as required.

  • Lead and assist in work cell rearrange improvements with Lean Manufacturing concepts.

  • Authorized to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating

  • to product, process, and quality system.

  • Authorized to identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system.

  • Performs other essential job functions as assigned.


JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a minimum of a two year College Technical degree or equivalent experience, with six years experience in the field. Experience to include Tool and Die making (four year apprenticeship preferred) experience in a stamping plant preferred. Knowledge and Experience with Lean Manufacturing preferred


SPECIAL SKILLS:

Must be able to verbally communicate well and write technical reports as required. Computer literate. AutoCad or Cad Experience.


MAJOR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, talk, reach overhead, bend over, and exert up to 40 lbs of force as needed.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Stamping plant environment. Will come into contact with possible hazards resulting from loud noise, operating machinery, and inhaling fumes or dust.
