Steel Tool & Engineering Co. in Trenton, MI is seeking a Tool Maker to build, repair, and maintain precision tools used in aerospace-driven manufacturing.

You will interpret drawings, set up CNC and manual machines, and produce high-tolerance tooling while ensuring quality and safety standards. Role requires strong metrology skills, CAD/CAM familiarity, and the ability to work independently from engineering docs.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in a tool room or precision machining environment preferred.
• Strong blueprint interpretation and engineering documentation skills.
• Ability to read CAD drawings and fabricate to tight tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Blueprint interpretation and tooling requirement determination.
• Machine, assemble, and finish tools using CNC and manual equipment.
• Set up and operate CNC and manual machining equipment for precision components.
• Inspect finished tools with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and CMMs.
• Diagnose wear or failure and perform repairs to tooling.
• Plan machining sequences and setups for efficient production.
• Participate in Kaizen and root-cause analysis for tooling improvements.
• Maintain records, update setup sheets, and communicate changes.
