Job summary

Verus Aerospace is seeking a Tool Maker to operate and set up conventional and advanced machining equipment in a dedicated shop environment.

You will read blueprints, select tools, perform precision measurements, and collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure tooling quality and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of conventional machining experience.
• Must have MIG welding experience.
• Must be able to drive forklift and pass Verus testing.
• Certification from an accredited technical college is a plus.
• Strong math aptitude and ability to read blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as Bridgeport milling machines, engine lathes, drill presses, and welding equipment.
• Set up and run basic and specialized machine tools for precision work.
• Study blueprints and drawings to determine methods and tolerances.
• Use micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges to inspect parts.
• Align fixtures, tools, and materials on machines.
• Choose appropriate tools and materials for machining tasks.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Production to resolve issues.
• Clean and coat dies as needed for forming operations.
• Lay out and measure metal stock to verify cut locations.
• Operate independently with minimal supervision.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Tool Maker will operate manual industrial equipment to manufacture and complete forming tools, and fixtures. Essential skills are working knowledge of tool room machinery, above average math abilities and thorough understanding of machining principles and blueprint reading.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as Bridgeport milling machines, engine lathes, drill presses, drill jigs,welding equipmentetc.
• Set up, adjust, andoperateall ofthe basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation toolsin order toperform precision machining operations.
• Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering informationin order todeterminemethods and sequences of operations needed to fabricatetooling, anddeterminetoolingdimensions and tolerances.
• Utilize tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, depth gauges, bore gauges, height gauges, etc. to accurately check and inspect machined components.
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
• Select theappropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
• Coordinate with both Engineering and Production machine operators to solve technical issues.
• May have to clean surface of large forming dies and re-coat with die coating to ease in forming operations.
• Lay out, measure, and mark metal stockin order toconfirm placement of cuts.
• Tooperateindependently with minimal supervision.
• Other duties as assigned.
