Qualifications

Job description

As a Toolmaker, you will work with minimal supervision and assistance to machine complex parts to engineering drawings, sketches, or other documentation, including verbal instruction, and using metal working equipment. You should also be able to conceive, design and build fixtures, tooling and procedures for fabrication operations of parts being made. On occasion tasks assigned may be considered production runs. You will be expected to be able to perform setups and choose tooling independently.

Essential Functions
  • Machine complex parts to engineering drawings or other documentation with minimal supervision
  • Evaluate tasks and determine the most efficient sequence of operations and tooling, considering material type, quantity required, plating requirements, tolerance requirements, and other factors
  • Perform accurate layouts and transfers of hole patterns
  • Be able to set up and operate metalworking machinery such as Proto Traks, Bridgeport millers, lathes, drill presses, and grinders
  • Measure fabricated parts using scales, protractors, micrometers, calipers, indicators, or other measurement devices
  • Fabricate acceptable parts in a timely manner
  • Submit parts to Inspection
  • Monitor part quality and submit samples to Inspection during production runs
  • Communicate problems to your manager or Lead in a timely manner
  • Work assigned may be in other departments on occasion
  • Work as a team to maximize productivity and quality
  • Provide assistance to others
  • Show a constant interest in learning other activities or skills
  • Participate in job reviews when appropriate
  • Maintain and submit accurate time records, both on drawings and in the ERP system
  • Maintain fabrication equipment in good order and use tools and equipment as designed
  • Clean equipment when breaking down setup
  • Maintain an orderly work area and clean up at the end of the day
  • Be consistently at work and punctual; clock job times accurately
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts
  • Observe company policy, safety, and security procedures
  • Perform all activities in conformance with the AGR Quality System and ISO procedures
Requirements
  • Ability to set up and operate metalworking equipment including drill presses, millers, lathes, and sheet metal equipment without assistance
  • Ability to select and use appropriate measuring devices for the task being monitored
  • Ability to fabricate parts to +/- .0005 of an inch, with a goal of machining parts to +/- .0002
  • Responsible for monitoring quality of parts during fabrication stages
  • Ability to work with hand tools
  • Ability to apply manufacturing software to fabricate parts based on part geometry
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings or other documentation and to work from verbal instructions
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Utilize the most efficient resources for fabricating and measuring parts being made or altered
  • Be able to perform shop math, including trigonometry functions, to ensure parts are made and checked to specifications
  • Routinely exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Little risk of electrical shock
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to use hands for a variety of tasks
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit, and occasionally climb, balance, stoop, or kneel
  • Frequently lift 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Good vision and eye/hand coordination
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
  • This is a full-time position, and typical work hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Overtime is on an as needed basis and at the direction of your manager
Preferred Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a Tool Maker or Machinist Apprenticeship
