Job summary

AMETEK, Inc. in Southington, CT is seeking a skilled Toolmaker to build and repair jigs, fixtures and tooling for surgical instrumentation and implants. You will read blueprints and work from instructions to produce tooling that meets exacting specifications.

You will set up and operate CNC machining centers as well as manual mills, lathes, and surface grinders, while training new Toolmakers and Apprentices. Ensure quality, maintain documentation, and uphold safety in a fast-paced workshop.

Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software and blueprints.
  • Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Able to work well in a team and manage multiple tasks.
  • High precision and manual dexterity for fixtures and tooling.
  • Willingness to train new Toolmakers and Apprentices.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal or written instructions.
  • Produce jigs, fixtures and tooling for surgical instrumentation and implants with minimal guidance.
  • Train new Toolmakers and Apprentices.
  • Set-up and operate CNC machining centers, manual mills, lathes, surface grinders and related tools.
  • Ensure fixtures, assemblies, and tools are produced to print and documented per procedures.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and rework/repair fixturing as needed.
  • Perform required preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area and ensure safe operation of equipment.
  • Follow all policies and safety precautions to minimize injury risk.
  • Complete essential documentation and comply with company requirements.

Job Description:

Responsible for building and/or repairing all types, sizes and shapes of fixtures, jigs and tooling.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal or written instructions.
  • Produce jigs and assembly fixtures and tooling with no instruction for use with surgical instrumentation and implants.
  • Responsible for training new Toolmakers and Apprentices.
  • Set-up & Operate CNC machining centers as well as manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, and other tool room equipment as necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring all assigned fixtures, assemblies, and tools are inspected to print and all documentation is recorded to department procedures.
  • Troubleshoot problems associated with equipment, fixtures, jigs, tooling and related processes. Also responsible for re-work or repair of all fixturing.
  • Complete required preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area and assure safe operation of all equipment.
  • Assure all policies and procedures are followed and safety precautions are taken to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Responsible to comply with company requirements and complete essential documentation as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) and/or computer-aided manufacturing (CAM).
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to be a team player.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
  • High degree of precision and control in work where damage could be high and where muscular control and delicate touch are required.
  • High degree of attention and care.
Compensation

Employee Type: Hourly

Currency: USD

Salary Minimum: 90,000

Salary Maximum: 105,000
