Position Summary:
Job Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of this position is to apply engineering principles to drive process improvements in the manufacturing of medical devices to positively affect Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
- Adheres to Viant Core Beliefs and all safety and quality requirements including, but not limited to: Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, company policies and operating procedures, and other regulatory requirements.
- Collaborates with programmers, operators and suppliers to evaluate designs for manufacturability and cost reduction.
- Create fixtures, tools, and gaging using precision machining principles involving both manual and CNC 3 axis mills, lathes, surface grinders, and Wire EDM machines in accordance to blueprints per both internal and customer requirements.
- Support NPI production including identification of best practice manufacturing processes and inspection methods.
- Review and disposition product based on quality standards.
- Reviews, creates and revises CAD models.
- Supports manufacturing engineers on projects and initiatives.
- Assists in and investigates improvement opportunities.
- Assists in training production workforce in proper setup and use of equipment as necessary.
- Troubleshoot and maintain dies to include die life, clearance, NCP, and regular maintenance.
- Inspects and evaluates wearing, damage or abnormal condition in dies and determines repair actions.
- Utilize precision measurement techniques using microscopes, micrometers, calipers, comparator, gage blocks and indicators.
- Maintains proper housekeeping of their work areas.
- Maintains records for tooling repairs, service and maintenance per established procedures.
- Coordinates shipping of components and dies with vendors when outsourced.
- Recommend changes required to part design, tool design or equipment capability to achieve acceptable quality and cost requirement.
- Performs other functions as necessary to support the business.
- Adheres to good manufacturing practices and safety guidelines
Knowledge/Education:
- High school diploma or degree in a technical field with applicable experience is required.
- Tooling apprenticeship
Experience:
- 5+ years of tooling experience.
Skills/Competencies:
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge and competency in GD&T, Tool design, cutting tool technology and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to provide solid rational and justification for process improvement change requests.
- Lean manufacturing and new product development or launch support experience is highly desirable.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in medical devices is preferred.
- Knowledge of mechanics, electricity, pneumatic, hydraulics.
- Detailed and organized.
