Job summary

AimHire is helping a precision manufacturer in Farmington, CT hire a Maintenance Toolmaker for in-plant diagnostics, design, repair and preventive maintenance of high-precision machinery. The role requires reading blueprints, independent problem solving, and collaboration with the team to keep production running smoothly.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of machine maintenance experience, a CT journeyperson apprenticeship is preferred, and laser welding fixture maintenance experience is a bonus.

Qualifications

  • High school or trade school diploma and hands-on maintenance experience.
  • 5+ years of machine maintenance experience.
  • CT-approved journeyperson (apprenticeship) preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Strong communication and independent judgment.
  • Detail-oriented with a practical, hands-on work ethic.
  • Bonus: welding experience, especially laser welding equipment/fixture maintenance.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing/quality engineering and DFMA principles.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose issues and implement solutions by reading blueprints or following verbal direction.
  • Design, build, repair, and maintain machinery on the production floor.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain plant equipment; perform advanced machine repairs.
  • Set up and operate machine tools to close tolerances for precision parts.
  • Build fixtures and gauges as needed to support production.
  • Collaborate with team on machinery design, maintenance and repair.
  • Operate forklifts and move heavy machinery as required.
  • Perform lockout/tagout procedures per OSHA standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and support tooling needs.

Job description

Location: Farmington, CT | Direct Hire | $35–41/hr (based on experience)
About the Company

Our client is an established precision manufacturer with decades of experience producing metal components and assemblies for a range of industries, including medical, defense, and aerospace. Family owned and managed, they partner closely with customers from early prototyping through full-volume production, and are known for taking on complex, precision-driven work that requires real technical expertise. They\'re looking for a skilled Maintenance Toolmaker to keep their production floor running at its best.

Responsibilities:

You\’ll work independently, diagnosing issues and building solutions from blueprints or verbal direction - designing, building, repairing, and maintaining the machinery that keeps this facility producing precision parts.

  • Troubleshoot and maintain plant equipment; handle advanced machine repairs
  • Set up and operate machine tools to close tolerances for precision parts
  • Build fixtures and gauges as needed
  • Collaborate with other team members on machinery design, maintenance, and repair
  • Operate forklifts and other equipment to move heavy machinery
  • Perform lockout/tagout procedures in line with OSHA standards
  • Keep accurate maintenance records
  • Support production tooling needs as they arise
  • Recommend process improvements and help maintain a safe, clean work environment
Qualifications:

Physical Requirements

Corrected vision for reading prints and inspecting close-tolerance parts, manual dexterity for precision work, and the ability to stoop and bend throughout the shift.
