Job summary

MDS Staffing is seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maker for a privately held metals manufacturing company in the Southwest Minneapolis Metro Area. You will fabricate, assemble, maintain, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures for stamping processes, employing CNC and manual machines.

The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of hands-on toolmaking or precision machining, advanced CAD/CAM and blueprint-reading skills, and the ability to mentor junior toolmakers while collaborating with

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (technical school/apprenticeship preferred).
• 5–10 years of hands‑on experience in toolmaking or precision machining.
• Advanced skills in manual and CNC machining.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and blueprint reading.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• High precision and attention to detail.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work in a physically active role.
• Strong communication skills and ability to train others.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and modify complex tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures for the stamping process.
• Operate CNC and manual machines (mills, lathes, grinders, surface grinders).
• Interpret and work from detailed blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings.
• Apply knowledge of tolerances, materials, and geometric dimensions.
• Assemble, test, and troubleshoot tooling to ensure optimal performance.
• Perform regular tool maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with production, design, and engineering teams to improve tooling processes.
• Conduct inspections using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, CMM, etc.).
• Mentor junior toolmakers and machinists.
• Follow all company safety standards and participate in production meetings.
