Description

Position Summary: Aluma Form Inc. is seeking a Tool & Die Maker I. The Tool & Die Maker I is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and improvement of all tooling dies, jigs, fixtures, and fittings for press tools and CNC equipment in line with production and customer requirements to support business objectives. Support new tooling for new product introductions to ensure the robustness of product builds. Work on various phases or sub-tasks of projects or entire projects of moderate complexity, with results impacting project completion. Work under general supervision, reviewed at project milestones and/or on completion by Senior Management.

Responsibilities:

  • Repair and maintain press tools and die repairs
  • Routine servicing and regrinding of tools
  • Attend breakdowns, identify faults, and problem-solve at the press with minimal downtime to aid production
  • Evaluate each job and determine if it can be repaired in press or must be removed to Tool Room for maintenance and repair work
  • Estimate time required to complete a job and assess consequences of failure to meet deadlines
  • Identify and escalate any activity that could cause harm or damage
  • Report breakdown root causes, equipment faults, and concerns to Management
  • Ensure all work meets high-quality standards and adheres to quality regulations
  • Ensure company targets are met regarding quality of parts produced
  • Identify spares requirements and log usage
  • Take ownership of smaller, less complex tool suites to develop and maintain performance with minimal supervision
  • Operate Forklift Truck and lifting equipment
  • Support new project tooling from commissioning to production start
  • Assist in tooling buy-offs and trials
  • Manufacture new tooling and ancillary spares to support production and customer deadlines
  • Document and update die history and work records
  • Perform Planned Preventative Maintenance
  • Implement engineering-level changes and modifications to tools
  • Test and confirm electrical and hydraulic/pneumatic operation of tools before returning to production
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship
  • Record relevant data related to tooling in the Tool Room database
  • Participate in improvement activities to support departmental and company objectives
  • Ensure risk assessments are read and understood for each activity
  • Work within basic cost/budget measures for tooling
  • Maintain workplace standards using 5S methodology
  • Use personal protective equipment properly and report issues
  • Report all accidents and incidents
  • Promote environmental responsibility and follow company procedures
  • Stay updated with manufacturing and engineering trends in tool making
  • Undertake special projects as required
  • Conduct quality control reviews
  • Perform benchmarking to identify best practices and trends
  • Plan projects and sub-tasks for tracking and presentation
  • Attend meetings and communicate instructions effectively
  • Engage in continuous training and development
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
  • Determine approaches and complete assigned tasks independently
