Our Tool Room team consists of talented Tool & Die Makers and Machinists responsible for machining custom tooling, fixtures, and gauges with direct design input. We seek to add a skilled Tool & Die Maker 3 to this team.

We desire a self-motivated individual with excellent Machining, EDM, and Grinding skills. Typical projects include Gage Making, Dimple Dies, and Automated Fixturing. Join us if you are passionate about designing, machining, and building in-house for a leading sports optics manufacturer!

Responsibilities of a Tool & Die Maker 3:

  1. Participate in designing and developing tools, fixtures, and gauges; analyze specifications; operate machine tools; fabricate, maintain, and repair dies and tools; troubleshoot and verify conformance to specifications.
  2. Work from blueprints and verbal instructions to build, modify, and repair tools and dies; determine necessary tools and measurements.
  3. Review prints, plan work flow, and ensure material and equipment availability.
  4. Perform layout, machining, and assembly; measure and mark metal stock; set up pneumatic components.
  5. Build, test, calibrate, and maintain gauges; coordinate calibrations and maintain records.
  6. Develop performance specifications; collaborate on design improvements.
  7. Troubleshoot issues; determine corrective actions.
  8. Perform routine maintenance; inspect work for quality.
  9. Stay informed on new technologies; participate in R&D.
  10. Lead or participate in project teams; monitor milestones.
  11. Train and mentor new employees or apprentices.
  12. Perform backup lead duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, trade school training, and 10+ years of experience in tool and die making.
  • Expertise in tool design, construction, and practices.
  • Specialized skills in gauge making, millwright, or other mechanical/electrical areas.
  • Strong knowledge of shop mathematics, GD&T, and metal properties.
  • Ability to interpret technical blueprints and specifications.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools; operating shop machines to tight tolerances.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming and layout procedures.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with CAM software.

Work environment involves exposure to noise and chemicals; use PPE required. Must be able to stand or sit long periods, perform manual tasks, lift up to 50 pounds with assistance, and operate light tools and machinery.
