Job summary

Astronics PECO in Clackamas, Oregon, is seeking an Experienced Tool & Die Maker to keep tooling operable and to repair, modify and build molds, dies, tooling and fixtures for the facility.

You will work from engineering specifications, interpret drawings, operate a range of machine tools, and apply heat treating, pneumatics and hydraulics knowledge while maintaining safe, clean work areas.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in tool making is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to tooling and tolerances.

Responsibilities

  • Keep tooling operable and perform repairs on molds, dies, tooling and fixtures.
  • Modify and construct tooling as needed for production.
  • Operate machine tools and processes including casting, coining and molding.
  • Work from engineering specifications and liaise with Engineering.
  • Maintain safety and quality standards in all work activities.

Tool & Die Maker
Location

PECO-Astronics, located in Clackamas, Oregon, designs and manufactures highly engineered commercial aerospace interior components and systems for the aerospace industry. We specialize in Passenger Service Units (PSUs) which incorporate air handling, emergency oxygen, electrical power management and cabin lighting systems. We also manufacture a wide range of fuel tank access doors that meet stringent strength, fuel sealing and anti-corrosion requirements.

Experienced Tool & Die Maker

The purpose of this position is to keep tooling operable and provide the necessary repairs, modifications and construction of molds, dies, tooling and fixtures for the entire facility.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work independently without instruction

  • Working knowledge of Engineering and design coupled with a strong mechanical background

  • Analyses and resolves problems related to tooling performance

  • Interprets specifications and maintains liaisons with Engineering

  • Operates all machine tools, accessories and processes including casting, coining and molding

  • Use a variety of steels, plastics and composites

  • Working knowledge of heat treating of metals including tool steels

  • Working familiarity of pneumatics and hydraulics

  • Attend Quality Manual Standards Training and applies Quality Standards accordingly

  • Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly

  • Maintain a clean work area

Skills, Training & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred

  • Previous experience, education and/or training in tool making, required

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, mathematical, diagram, or schedule form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

  • Ability to solve and define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continually required to stand and walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee will occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include natural or corrected near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
