Responsibilities

• Set up and operate machine tools to manufacture, repair, modify, and maintain dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, tooling, and production equipment.
• Inspect progressive dies and injection molds for wear and repairs; troubleshoot tooling issues.
• Apply precision measuring techniques and verify tolerances with calipers, micrometers, and indicators.
• Participate in process improvements and support safety and housekeeping.

Position Title: Tool & Die Maker Wage: $27.00-$28.00/hour Shift: 2nd Hours: 2pm-10pm Join a team where your craftsmanship and expertise directly support world-class manufacturing operations.

Tool & Die Maker Responsibilities

• Tooling & Machining Operations - Set up and operate a variety of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, drill presses, band saws, bench grinders, and other manual and powered shop equipment - Manufacture, repair, modify, and maintain dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, tooling, and production equipment - Select appropriate tool steels and materials based on tooling requirements and intended application - Heat treat tooling components and perform finish grinding to blueprint specifications - Grind, fit, and assemble carbide die components while maintaining critical tolerances - Construct new tooling and fixtures from prints, sketches, samples, or engineering specifications - Sharpen, repair, and maintain tooling used in production dies and molds
• Die & Mold Maintenance - Inspect progressive dies and injection molds to identify wear, damage, or required repairs - Troubleshoot tooling issues affecting product quality, production efficiency, or dimensional accuracy - Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on dies, molds, and related tooling - Make adjustments and repairs to ensure tooling consistently produces parts that meet quality standards
• Blueprint Reading & Precision Measurement - Interpret blueprints, shop drawings, layouts, sketches, and engineering specifications - Apply advanced shop mathematics, geometry, and precision measuring techniques during machining operations - Inspect completed work using calipers, micrometers, indicators, and other precision measuring instruments - Verify dimensional accuracy and ensure all tooling and components meet required tolerances and specifications
• Teamwork & Continuous Improvement - Work closely with supervisors, engineers, and production personnel to prioritize tooling needs and support manufacturing goals - Provide training and mentorship to developing Tool & Die personnel as needed - Assist with process improvements, tooling enhancements, and cost-saving initiatives - Complete assigned projects with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality workmanship
• Safety & Housekeeping - Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment - Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, and departmental policies - Properly use personal protective equipment and machine safety devices - Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned

Tool & Die Maker Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop prints, and technical drawings required
• Experience operating and setting up mills, lathes, grinders, and drill presses required
• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, and indicators
• Knowledge of tool steels and their proper applications
• Experience performing heat-treat processes and finish grinding operations
• Ability to manufacture and repair dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, and tooling
• Strong understanding of shop math, machining principles, and geometric calculations
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
• Tool & Die apprenticeship completion, technical training, or equivalent hands-on experience required
• Experience with progressive dies and injection mold tooling required
• Prior experience training or mentoring other machinists or Tool & Die Makers
• Manufacturing or industrial maintenance experience in a production environment
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift
• Ability to lift and move tooling, materials, and components required
• Manual dexterity to operate machinery, hand tools, and precision measuring equipment
• Ability to work safely around moving mechanical equipment and manufacturing machinery
• Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
• Mechanical aptitude and technical problem-solving skills
• Ability to maintain tight tolerances and high-quality standards
• Dependability, initiative, and a team-oriented attitude
