JOB TITLE/LOCATION:
Tool & Die Maker – Baldwin Park, CA
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, written or verbal instructions to design, develop and construct, highly complicated tools, jigs, fixtures, gages and dies to make tools or parts. May also construct tools, dies or gages where no design is available upon receipt of instructions from supervision.
- Sets up and operates various machine tools, such as lathes, mills, jig bores and grinders to machine, grind and fabricate special jigs, fixtures, tools, gages, dies or parts for machinery in the plant.
- Uses a variety of precision measuring instruments to check work after each operation to insure the final product will meet the objectives originally intended.
- Works independent of direct supervision by displaying a high degree of skill and judgment in performing all the operations that may be required to fabricate any special jigs, fixtures, tools, gages, dies or parts for equipment in the plant from verbal instructions, sketches or finished drawings.
- Uses shop mathematics involving geometry, trigonometry, addition and subtraction of decimals and fractions, generated radii, compound angles on several planes to set-up machine tools, layout work, fabricate work and complete a finished product to precise dimensions.
- May make parts from worn or broken parts to assist in expediting machine repair activities within the plant.
- May work closely with Design &/or Manufacturing Engineering on the design of a new bearing.
- May be required to work with the Maintenance Department or other Managers/Supervisors on special projects requiring their skill set.
- Continually reviewing processes and equipment for guarding and other safety related items.

EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
EXPERIENCE:
- 1-3 years of tool-making experience.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of metals and machining.
- Ability to use inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, profilometers, indicators, etc.)
- Experience with Haas lathes and mills.
- Experience with manual lathes, surface grinders, and mills.
- Experience with interpreting GD&T.
- Good communication skills.
- Understanding of hardening of steels through heat treatment processes.
- Experience in an Aerospace machining environment (preferred).
- Experience in machining Aluminum, Inconel, Titanium, Stainless, and Aerospace Superalloys (preferred).

The pay range represents the low and high end of the salary range we reasonably expect to pay for this position at the time of posting. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, education, skills, qualifications, performance, and business or organizational needs. Salary Range: $24-30 hourly. Relocation assistance not available and we are only considering local candidates.
