Job summary

Nordic Ware seeks a full-time Tool and Die Maker to plan, layout, and perform precision machining to build, modify, and repair tools and dies at our Saint Louis Park headquarters. The role involves hands-on problem solving and directly impacting production tooling and equipment.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of tool making experience, with strong mechanical aptitude and experience with lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses. On-the-job training is provided.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Manual machining experience on drills, milling machines, grinders, and lathes.
• 2+ years tool making experience preferred.
• Molding and metal stamping experience preferred.
• Vo-Tech program in Tool and Die making or equivalent desired.

Responsibilities

• Perform die assembly and fitting of new and existing tools.
• Work from parts, prints or sketches to create parts for tools, replacement parts and factory equipment.
• Set up and operate lathes, drill presses, milling machines, and grinders with hand tools and measuring instruments.
• Perform bench operations involving project planning and final assembly of material.
• Perform rework on worn or damaged parts.
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production tools including dies, molds, fixtures and factory equipment during production.
• Work with department leads to resolve problems that arise in various departments with machines, dies, tools, etc.
• Perform preventive maintenance on production tooling and equipment.
• Collaborate with department team members to ensure production requirements are met.

What you will get to do:

• Perform die assembly and fitting of new and existing tools.
• Work from parts, prints or sketches and verbal instructions, to create parts for tools, replacement parts and factory equipment.
• Set up and operate a variety of machines, including lathes, drill presses, milling machines, and grinders, using hand tools and measuring instruments.
• Perform bench operations involving project planning and final assembly of material.
• Perform rework on worn or damaged parts.
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production tools including dies, molds, fixtures and factory equipment during production.
• Work with department leads to resolve problems that arise in various departments with machines, dies, tools, etc.
• Perform preventive maintenance on production tooling and equipment.
• Work collaboratively and cooperatively with department team members and other department Managers and Supervisors to ensure all production requirements are met, to promote most efficient operations for all departments, and to ensure company goals are achieved.
• Comply with plant safety rules, policies and regulations and maintain clean and orderly work area.
• Use floor jacks, die lifts, hoist and forklifts to move materials.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you'll bring to the role:

• High School diploma or GED required
• Manual machine experience required - including drills, milling machines, grinders, lathes
• 2+ years of tool making experience strongly preferred
• Mechanical aptitude
• Molding and metal stamping experience is strongly preferred.
• Accredited Vo-Tech program in Tool and Die making, Industrial Maintenance or equivalent desired
• On-the-job training is provided to help you become familiar with our production processes, facility, and support equipment.
