Job summary

Nordic Ware in Saint Louis Park, MN, is seeking a full-time Tool and Die Maker to plan, layout, and perform precision machining to build, modify, and repair tools and dies. This hands-on role offers direct impact on production and craftsmanship valued in our American-made kitchenware heritage.

You will operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses, perform bench work, and collaborate with department leads to resolve machine/tool issues while maintaining safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Vo-Tech program in Tool and Die making/Industrial Maintenance or equivalent desired.
• On-the-job training provided to become familiar with production processes and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform die assembly and fitting of new and existing tools.
• Work from parts, prints or sketches to create parts for tools and replacement parts.
• Set up and operate lathes, drill presses, milling machines, and grinders, using hand tools and measuring instruments.
• Perform bench operations involving project planning and final assembly of material.
• Perform rework on worn or damaged parts.
• Provide emergency repairs of production tools, dies, molds, fixtures and equipment during production.
• Work with department leads to resolve problems with machines, dies, tools.
• Perform preventive maintenance on production tooling and equipment.
• Collaborate with team to ensure production requirements are met and goals are achieved.
• Comply with plant safety rules and maintain a clean, orderly work area.

What You Will Get To Do

• Perform die assembly and fitting of new and existing tools.
• Work from parts, prints or sketches and verbal instructions, to create parts for tools, replacement parts and factory equipment.
• Set up and operate a variety of machines, including lathes, drill presses, milling machines, and grinders, using hand tools and measuring instruments.
• Perform bench operations involving project planning and final assembly of material.
• Perform rework on worn or damaged parts.
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production tools including dies, molds, fixtures and factory equipment during production.
• Work with department leads to resolve problems that arise in various departments with machines, dies, tools, etc.
• Perform preventive maintenance on production tooling and equipment.
• Work collaboratively and cooperatively with department team members and other department Managers and Supervisors to ensure all production requirements are met, to promote most efficient operations for all departments, and to ensure company goals are achieved.
• Comply with plant safety rules, policies and regulations and maintain clean and orderly work area.
• Use floor jacks, die lifts, hoist and forklifts to move materials.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring To The Role

• High School diploma or GED required
• Manual machine experience required - including drills, milling machines, grinders, lathes
• 2+ years of tool making experience strongly preferred
• Mechanical aptitude
• Molding and metal stamping experience is strongly preferred.
• Accredited Vo-Tech program in Tool and Die making, Industrial Maintenance or equivalent desired
• On-the-job training is provided to help you become familiar with our production processes, facility, and support equipment.
