Job summary

NIC Global in Tennessee is seeking a Tool and Die Maker for the 2nd shift. You will set up machine tools, repair dies, and assemble parts to fabricate with tight tolerances, ensuring conformance to specs.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, proficiency with measuring instruments, and knowledge of tool and die design. Wire EDM or CNC machining center experience is a plus, with a long weekend on the horizon.

Qualifications

  • High school level education or equivalent specialized training which may be obtained in vocational courses or on the job.
  • Ability to verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances using measuring instruments such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers.
  • Knowledge of tool and die design and construction, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, machining, and assembly procedures.
  • Knowledge of welding fixtures on robotic type welders.
  • Wire EDM or CNC Machining Center experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate.
  • Repairs metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists hand tools.
  • Applies knowledge of tool and die design and construction, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, machining, and assembly procedures.
  • Studies specifications and visuals to determine materials and machines for fabrication.
  • Computes dimensions and determines assembly methods for work with tight tolerances.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Lifts machine parts manually and positions parts on the surface plate using vises, V-blocks, and angle plates.
  • Ensures surfaces are smooth using scrapers, abrasives, and grinders.
  • Fits and assembles parts using hand tools.
  • Verifies dimensions alignments and clearances using measuring instruments.
  • Additional duties as needed by business.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
  • Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate.
  • Repairs metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists hand tools.
  • Applies knowledge of tool and die design and construction, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, machining, and assembly procedures.
  • Studies specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Computes dimensions, plan layouts, and determines assembly methods and sequence of operations for work involving extremely close tolerances.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Lifts machine parts manually, uses hoists and positions and secures parts on surface plate of worktable using devices such as vises, V-blocks, and angle plates.
  • Ensures surfaces are smooth using scrapers, abrasive stones, and power grinders.
  • Fits and assembles parts together using hand tools.
  • Verifies dimensions alignments and clearances using measuring instruments.
