Tool and Die Maker (1st shift)

This position reports to: Maintenance Manager

Your role and responsibilities

Performs machining operations on various machines to produce parts to specifications. Designs, builds, and assembles jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machines using pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Develops skills in die preventative maintenance, repair, design, and build. Carries out tasks including:

  1. Reading and interpreting operation sheets, sketches, layouts, diagrams, and instructions to perform machining operations accurately.
  2. Developing drawing skills to document work.
  3. Measuring, marking, and scribing metal stock for machining.
  4. Setting up and operating machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders, and verifying conformance to specifications.
  5. Lifting, positioning, and securing machined parts, and assembling parts into mechanisms.
  6. Verifying dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
  7. Examining dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures, and recommending design modifications.
  8. Developing specifications and designing specialty tools and dies.
  9. Assisting in supervision and training of team members, especially Level 1 tool room staff.
  10. Maintaining a clean work environment daily.
  11. Working overtime as scheduled.
  12. Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications for the role
  • HS/GED required; minimum Associate's degree or equivalent from college or technical school; completion of a four-year apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and sketches.
  • Proficiency with mathematical concepts including geometry and trigonometry.
  • Applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical situations.
  • Problem-solving skills in dealing with concrete variables and limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in various formats and handle multiple variables.
