Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Completion of apprenticeship in Tool and Die field; Journeyman's card.
  • Five years of related experience and/or training in Tool and Die making procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, constructs, maintains, alters, checks, and repairs dies, fixtures, gauges, tools, jigs, machines, and equipment.
  • Analyze specifications and visualize parts to determine materials and machines required.
  • Mentor and support the tool and die department; maintain strong internal communication.
  • Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence.
  • Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders; verify conformance to specs.
  • Review dies/tools and recommend design changes to improve life and performance.
  • Develop specifications for specialty tools and draft/design product.
  • Perform bench and assembly operations to fit, align, calibrate, adjust, assemble, and finish work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Job Responsibilities


  1. Designs, constructs, maintains, alters, checks, and repairs dies, fixtures, gauges, tools, jigs, machines, and equipment.

  2. Ability to analyze specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize products to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.

  3. Trains, mentors, supports, and maintains strong internal communication within the tool and die department.

  4. Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.

  5. Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.

  6. Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part to improve tool life or performance.

  7. Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.

  8. Performs close and exacting bench and assembly operations to fit, align, calibrate, adjust, assemble, and finish work.

  9. Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Skills Requirements


  • Strong mechanical aptitude and craftsmanship.

  • Strong understanding of tool and die design, materials, and manufacturing processes.

  • Proficiency in reading, creating, and interpreting complex technical drawings and blueprints.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills include maintaining and upgrading various types of machine tools, selecting proper cutting tools, speeds, and feeds on machine tools and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with diverse personalities and individuals at various levels.


Educational Requirements


  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

  • Completion of apprenticeship in Tool and Die field, must have obtained a Journeyman's card.


Experience Requirements


  • Five years of related experience and/or training in Tool and Die making procedures; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Physical & Environmental Requirements


  • Some physical demand: often lifting/moving average weight (25-50 lbs/11-27 kgs) material, may be required to lift up to 70lbs.

  • Ability to stand and/or walk constantly over a full work shift (8-12 hours).

  • Ability to perform occasional to frequent pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, twisting, crawling and/or reaching over a full work shift (8-12 hours).
