Qualifications

• Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
• Fit and assemble parts to make dies and tools with machine and hand tools.
• Inspect finished dies for contour conformity and defects.
• Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, grinders to shape parts.
• Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints and CAD drawings to plan sequences of operations.
• Fit and assemble parts to make dies and tools.
• Inspect dies for dimensions and defects.
• Operate machine tools to cut, bore, grind parts to spec.
• Verify dimensions using calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.
• Maintain mechanical accuracy and tool condition.

Job Summary:

The Tool and Die Maker Trainee will work to precise tolerances to build stamping and forming dies used in the manufacture of Springs and Bellevilles.

Essential Job Functions:

• Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
• Fit and assemble parts to make various dies and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
• Inspect finished dies for contour conformity and defects.
• Set up and operate conventional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes. (Some experience required)
• Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly.
• Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or grinders.
• Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
• Must be mechanically inclined.

Education and Experience:

• 1-2 years of relevant work experience in a Technical High School.
