Job summary

Ohio BWC is seeking a Regional Field Safety Operations supervisor to oversee daily operations for ergonomists, industrial hygienists, and safety consultants across Northwest Ohio. You will plan and direct programming, attend on-site employer consultations, and prepare status reports on service delivery outcomes and projects.

You will mentor staff, represent the Office of Safety Services in meetings with employers and safety organizations, and manage resource allocation and budgets.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or 4+ years relevant experience in field safety.
• Experience with safety programs, audits or compliance activities.
• Proficiency with data analytics and MS Office tools.

Job description

BWC’s core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across BWC departments. Most positions perform work on-site at one of BWC’s seven offices across the state. BWC offers flex-time work schedules that allow an employee to start the day as early as 7:00am or as late as 8:30am. Flex-time schedules are based on operational need and require supervisor approval.

• This position supports all counties within Field Safety Operations region 4 (Northwest Ohio).

Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment

Completion of undergraduate core program in educational program commensurate with official position description on file; 4 yrs. exp. in public or private organization holding position involved in activities similar to those described in official position description on file.

• Or 6 yrs. exp. in public or private organization holding position involved in activities similar to those described in official position description on file.
• Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Major Worker Characteristics

Knowledge of federal, state & local safety, health & fire prevention laws, rules regulations & national voluntary standards; principles of safety management; safety training techniques & program development; industrial & construction safety practices; BWC policies & procedures* ; physical sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, ergonomics, industrial hygiene) or engineering; accounting, management*, employee training, Workers’ Comp. Federal/State tax, interviewing, counseling, principles of BWC claims operations* ; BWC rehabilitation services*; supervisory principles & techniques*; human relations; public relations; sales & marketing principles & techniques. Knowledge of BWC rules & regulations regarding Risk Administration (e.g. Risk classifications, experience rating, retrospective rating, loss control, premium rates).

Skill in the use of Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint etc.), data analytics and visualization tools (e.g., Native Tableau dashboards), and BWC enterprise systems supporting filed work, grant applications, claims, policy, and operational management to analyze data, track performance metrics, prepare reports, and support staff supervision and program oversight. Understanding of safety testing equipment (e.g. noise meter, video equipment).

Ability to comprehensively analyze & evaluate the effectiveness of the regional Field Safety Operations program; identify problems in a complex set of variables; establish professional rapport & effective working relationship with employers, special interest groups, other BWC departments, & the public; investigate & resolve complaint/problems; handle sensitive face-to-face & telephone inquiries from employers, special interest groups, other BWC departments, & the public; effectively manage off-site employees; build & maintain a positive working atmosphere of growth & participation; define problems, collect data, establish facts, & draw valid conclusions; read & record figures accurately; maintain accurate records; understand manuals & verbal instructions; write meaningful, accurate & concise reports; read & understand technical documents; facilitate effective virtual and in-person team meetings.
