Toishanese Interpreter – Video‑Phone Interpreter

Location: Work at Home, United States.
Pay: $23–$25 per hour, not less than applicable state or local minimum wage.

Job Summary

The interpreter handles video and audio interpreting sessions on demand, translating conversations between Toishanese and English speakers across a range of industries. The role is remote and requires a quiet, secure work environment at home.

Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to video and audio interpreting sessions, delivering interpretation professionally and courteously.
• Participate in online training sessions and continuously update skills.
• Execute interpretation through video while expediently typing data on a dedicated device (laptop, desktop, mobile phone, or tablet).
• Render correct concepts and meanings following established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and enunciation.
• Maintain a professional demeanor and camouflaged neutrality throughout sessions.
• Remain calm during sessions that involve sensitive or emergency situations (e.g., 911 calls).
• Follow client instructions and protocols, ensuring client expectations are met without unauthorized interaction with the limited‑English‑speaking person.
• Understand industry terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and law contexts.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adaptability to diverse environments.
• Provide service continuously, even during high call volumes or emotionally charged sessions.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Toishanese and English with strong cultural competency.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills.
• Ability to remain detached and objective during sensitive or emotionally charged conversations.
• Education or experience in teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation preferred.
• Minimum age 18.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship required).
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write both languages (highly preferred).
• Ready to adopt new technology tools and client software.

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated personal device (desktop/laptop with Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS; tablet or smartphone acceptable).
• High‑speed internet connection: minimum 5Mbps download, 3Mbps upload, ping ≤300ms, jitter ≤30ms.
• No Kaspersky products or Huawei hardware.
• Quiet workspace free from background noise.
