GENERAL SUMMARY

The ABW Group Leader is responsible for coordinating and leading day-to-day secondary production operations, including Assembly, Bender, Weld, Grind, and related processes. This position provides leadership and direction to Team Leaders and Team Members to ensure safe, quality, efficient, and cost-effective production while meeting customer and production requirements.

The ABW Group Leader owns the performance of the assigned area, including manpower coordination, associate development, training, performance accountability, production execution, quality compliance, equipment/process escalation, and continuous improvement. This position leads by example and drives consistent application of NASG policies, procedures, standards, and TQPS principles.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all NASG policies, procedures, safety requirements, and work practices.
• Maintain a safe work environment and ensure Team Leaders and Team Members consistently follow required safety procedures.
• Ensure machine guards, safety devices, light curtains, interlocks, and other required safety controls are properly used and maintained.
• Ensure Lockout/Tagout procedures and required PPE practices are followed.
• Conduct routine floor walk-throughs to identify and address unsafe conditions, behaviors, and potential hazards.
• Review opportunities for improving safety within assigned areas and ensure significant concerns are escalated and corrective actions initiated.

Production & Operations

• Coordinate daily production activities for Assembly, Bender, Weld, Grind, and other assigned secondary operations.
• Review production schedules and priorities and communicate expectations to Team Leaders and Team Members.
• Arrange and adjust manpower based on production requirements, attendance, equipment availability, priorities, and changing operational needs.
• Monitor production performance throughout the shift to ensure schedules, production targets, and customer requirements are achieved.
• Review ShopEdge, Lean Boards, production tracking, downtime, and other production reporting for accuracy and performance.
• Ensure equipment start-ups, changeovers, tooling/fixture adjustments, and production processes are completed according to established standards.
• Ensure production, downtime, quality, 5S, TPM, and related documentation is completed accurately and timely.
• Respond quickly to equipment downtime or process interruptions and coordinate Maintenance, Tooling, Quality, Engineering, or other support.
• Ensure work orders are initiated, tracked, and followed through for equipment, tooling, fixture, or facility issues.
• Escalate unresolved issues that could affect safety, quality, production, delivery, or customer requirements.
• Ensure complete and accurate shift handoff communication to minimize downtime and production disruptions.
• Be capable and willing to support assigned production areas as operational needs require.

Quality

• Ensure Team Leaders and Team Members follow applicable inspection instructions, quality standards, control plans, and production requirements.
• Monitor part quality throughout the shift and ensure required inspections are completed at specified intervals.
• Verify first-piece, last-piece, visual, dimensional, and other required inspections are completed as applicable.
• Ensure proper gauging and measuring equipment is used according to established procedures.
• Ensure containment procedures are initiated when suspect or nonconforming product is identified and affected product is properly identified, contained, labeled, and segregated.
• Coordinate with Quality personnel to address concerns and implement required corrective actions.
• Ensure finished product is properly inspected, packaged, labeled, and staged according to customer and NASG requirements.
• Promote quality at the source and reinforce the expectation to stop and address problems when identified.

Leadership & Associate Development

• Provide daily leadership, direction, coaching, and support to Team Leaders and Team Members within assigned secondary operations.
• Ensure Team Leaders understand their responsibilities and are effectively leading their assigned areas.
• Establish clear expectations and hold Team Leaders and Team Members accountable for safety, quality, attendance, productivity, housekeeping, and adherence to standards.
• Monitor attendance and coordinate manpower to maintain production requirements.
• Identify training and development needs and ensure associates are properly trained and qualified for assigned work.
• Use applicable training matrices and qualification requirements to monitor skill development and cross-training.
• Develop Team Leaders and Team Members to increase technical knowledge, problem-solving capability, flexibility, and ownership.
• Provide performance feedback, coaching, recognition, and corrective action consistent with NASG policies and procedures.
• Participate in performance evaluations and disciplinary processes as required.
• Promote teamwork and effective communication among associates, Team Leaders, support departments, management, and other shifts.
• Lead by example and demonstrate accountability, professionalism, consistency, and respect.
• Demonstrate and reinforce a continuous improvement mindset utilizing NASG TQPS principles.
• Conduct floor walk-throughs to verify compliance with 5S, TPM, standardized work, production reporting, quality requirements, and established processes.
• Identify waste, inefficiencies, recurring downtime, quality concerns, and other opportunities for improvement.
• Work cross-functionally with Production, Maintenance, Tooling, Quality, Engineering, Materials, and other departments to resolve problems and improve processes.
• Encourage associate involvement in continuous improvement activities and suggestions.
• Support structured problem-solving, containment, root-cause identification, corrective action, and follow-up.
• Monitor improvements to ensure corrective actions are effective and sustained.
• Drive consistent application of TQPS principles throughout assigned secondary operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree or equivalent technical/manufacturing education preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education, manufacturing experience, and demonstrated leadership experience may be considered.
• Proficient math, computer, and communication skills required.

Experience

• Minimum two (2) years of manufacturing experience in a fast-paced production environment required.
• Secondary manufacturing experience involving assembly, robotic or resistance welding, bending/forming, grinding, or similar processes strongly preferred.
• Previous Team Leader, Group Leader, supervisory, or demonstrated leadership experience preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of production processes, standardized work, quality inspection, equipment operation, and basic troubleshooting.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating manpower and production priorities.
• Experience using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, fixtures, and other inspection equipment preferred.
• Experience with automated manufacturing equipment and basic troubleshooting preferred.
