Function

This role institutes and maintains a viable Title I Parent and Family Engagement program, acting as a public relations liaison between the campus and the community. The Paraprofessional ensures parents have adequate access to information, services, and support needed for their child’s academic and social success, and plans capacity‑building activities to improve student achievement and attendance.

Responsibilities

• Offer a flexible number of monthly workshops to educate parents and improve their ability to support their children’s academic achievement.
• Work with individual and/or small groups of students in corrective or reinforcement activities assigned by the teacher, except where certain programs may prohibit supervision of a given activity.
• Assist the teacher in implementing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
• Assist with supervision of students.
• Make home visits accompanied by another district employee upon the recommendation of the principal or designee to address specific attendance problems.
• Involve parents in an organized, ongoing, and timely way in the planning, review, and improvement of the school parent and family engagement policy and in the development or revision of the school‑parent compact.
• Collaborate with campus staff to provide assistance to parents in understanding State academic standards, state and local academic assessments, and how to monitor their child’s progress and work with educators to improve achievement.
• Share monthly Title I reports with the principal.
• Maintain an accurate record of all services provided.
• Work with the Title I Implementation Support Specialist to refer families to the proper agencies for meeting their immediate needs and assist with completing the required forms.
• Participate in professional development for parent and family capacity building and, as applicable, present information to peers upon return.
• Welcome new families to the school and encourage parents to volunteer.
• Help families obtain supplies and access to social services when needed.
• Collaborate with campus staff to ensure the Title I Annual Meetings are conducted twice a year.
