    Title I Interventionist

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Teachers license required. Experience or coursework in child growth and development and/or instructional technology particularly in the area of reading skill development.
    JOB GOAL:

    Under general supervision, to perform a variety of instructional functions pertaining to the reading skill development process; to assist in the conduct of intensified learning experiences; to perform routine clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel; and to do other related work as required.

    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    1. Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics;
    2. Student behavior management strategies and techniques;
    3. Instructional strategies pertaining to intensified reading skill development processes;
    4. Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar;
    5. Basic arithmetical concepts;
    6. Routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures.
    ABILITY TO:
    1. Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students experiencing reading remediation problems;
    2. Communicate effectively in oral and written form in English and a second language, as required by the assignment;
    3. Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment;
    4. Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a positive educational environment;
    5. Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
    6. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.
    CLASSIFICATION:

    This position is classified as a part-time position and is subject to the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Board of School Trustees. Pay is hourly based on the Interventionist schedule.

    REPORTS TO:

    Teacher/Building Principal

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Assist instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and in the conduct of instructional exercises pertaining to reading skill development activities.
    2. Tutor individual and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up reading skill development learning activities.
    3. Monitor and assist students in reading skill drills, practice, and study activities as a follow-up to the presentation of instructional concepts by instructional personnel.
    4. Assist in the management of student behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies and techniques.
    5. Prepare or assist in the preparation of a variety of reading skill development materials and learning aids.
    6. Maintain a variety of records and files pertaining to student records and information, particularly pertaining to reading skill development progress.
    7. May administer and score criterion referenced and reading skill aptitude tests, and records the results.
    8. Requisition and maintain an appropriate inventory of reading skill development textbooks, instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.
    9. Administer routine first aid and request assistance for serious illness or injury.
    10. Collect, assemble, catalogue, and distribute reading skill development resource materials.
    11. Assist in maintaining an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment.
    12. Participate in parent conferences as requested.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.

    1. Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
    2. This type of work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve running, walking or standing for brief periods.
    3. Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far visual acuity, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
