Job summary

Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI) is seeking a Tissue Coordinator to support our molecular profiling initiative. You will obtain archived tumor biopsies, coordinate shipments, and track tissue workflow with sponsors and labs.

Responsibilities include scheduling biopsies, preparing source documents, maintaining records, and ensuring timely delivery of specimens in accordance with shipping manuals, OSHA guidelines, and IATA standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements for safe handling of blood and body fluids.
  • Maintain IATA certification.
  • At least one year of healthcare experience preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • A valid Driver’s License is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with obtaining fresh and archival tumor biopsies and shipping to study sponsor or contract lab.
  • Schedule tissue biopsies and communicate procedure details to patients/site staff.
  • Prepare study supplies and source documents for tissue collection prior to treatment.
  • Attend biopsy procedures and aid in collection of tissue samples.
  • Coordinate delivery and receipt of fresh tissue with hospital pathology labs.
  • Maintain accurate records of tissue acquisition and shipping.
  • Notify couriers of sample shipments and arrange via FedEx/UPS as needed.
  • Ensure adequate dry ice supply for shipments.
  • Respond to study sponsor/contract lab queries about patient and sample data.
  • Track metrics on tissue requests, samples received/sent, processing times; report monthly.

The Tissue Coordinator provides support to the institution’s molecular profiling initiative, including maintaining accurate records for tissue sample acquisition and shipping. You will obtain archived tumor biopsies, respond to queries from sponsors and contract labs and track various metrics around the entire process.

  • You will assist with process of obtaining fresh and archival tumor biopsies and sending/retrieving to/from study sponsor or contract lab.

  • You will schedule research tissue biopsies and communicate procedure information to patients and/or site staff as appropriate.

  • You will prepare study supplies/source documents necessary for obtaining fresh tissue prior to patient treatment

  • You will attend biopsy procedures and aid in collection of fresh tissue samples.

  • You will coordinate the delivery and receipt of fresh tissue samples with hospital pathology laboratories

  • You will maintain accurate records of tissue sample acquisition and shipping

  • You will notify courier of any sample shipments

  • You will make necessary arrangements via FedEx, UPS, if samples arrive late

  • You will assist with process of obtaining archived tumor biopsies and sending/retrieving to/from study sponsor or contract lab

  • You will ensure adequate supply of dry ice is available for shipments

  • You will package and ship biopsy samples according to shipping manuals

  • You will respond to queries generated from study sponsor or contract lab regarding patient and sample data

  • You will track metrics, including total number of requests, amount received from path labs, amount sent to testing lab, insufficient samples, average time to receive, amount of tissue received after testing, amount of tissue returned to labs and overall number of days for processing. Report metrics monthly to leadership

  • You may utilize the company vehicle for the transportation of specimens. You should be open to utilizing personal vehicle, if necessary (compensation provided).

You should have for this position:
  • A High School Diploma, preferably a Bachelor’s Degree

  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements for safe handling of blood and body fluids

  • Maintain IATA certification

  • At least one year of experience, preferably in healthcare

  • The ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekends

  • A valid Driver’s License is required
