Position Summary

Position Summary
The Tire & Lube Technician for the Mid-Del Public Schools Transportation Department is responsible for performing routine preventive maintenance and inspections on the district’s fleet, including school buses, service vehicles, and support equipment. This position supports the safe and efficient operation of all vehicles used to transport students and staff by ensuring timely servicing and documentation of maintenance tasks in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Qualification Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in vehicle maintenance, tire service, or related field preferred.
- Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License required.
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements required, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- ASE Certification(s) in Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) or comparable areas preferred but not required.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, tire rotations, lubrication, filter replacement, and fluid checks.
- Inspect, repair, mount, and balance tires as needed on district vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct vehicle safety inspections and report potential issues to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.
- Maintain accurate service records and logs in accordance with district and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
- Assist mechanics in more complex repairs as directed.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of tires, lubricants, filters, and related supplies.
- Clean and organize work areas; ensure proper storage of tools and equipment.
- Adhere to all Mid-Del Public Schools policies and safety protocols.
- Support transportation department goals through collaborative and professional behavior.
- Perform other duties as assigned related to vehicle maintenance or departmental needs.
Language And Grammar Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form. Updated June 1st, 2025

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.
To ensure continuity of services, a different work location may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for a varied work location will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for this change will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.
