Job summary

Eliassen Group is seeking a Tier 1 Security Analyst on-site in Anaheim, CA, to support a 24x7 SOC. The role involves monitoring, investigating, and reporting on cyber threats for County assets, with shift rotations including nights and weekends. The engagement runs for about six months with potential conversion to FTE.

Responsibilities

• Monitor security events 24x7 and investigate incidents.
• Report and escalate potential security threats to SOC leadership.

• Assist in cyber metrics, threat intelligence, and automation tasks.
• Develop and implement security controls and risk mitigations.
• Engage with architectures, firewalls, and data flows.
• Evaluate new security tools and techniques in line with IT security strategy.
• Perform vulnerability scanning using approved tools and remediate findings.
• Provide briefings to senior staff as needed.

Our client seeks a Tier 1 Security Analyst to support a 24x7 Security Operations Center. The mission is to monitor, alert, respond, and report on cyber threats targeting County of Orange assets, systems, and data. The engagement is expected to run for roughly six months with potential, but no guarantee, for conversion. The role requires foundational cyber analysis skills, clear communication, multitasking, and adherence to SOC procedures. Shift rotations are expected and may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Rate: $25.00 to $29.00/hr. w2

Responsibilities

• Proactively monitor security events for networks and systems.
• Identify, investigate, and report on potential security incidents.
• Support risk and vulnerability assessments at network, system, and application levels.
• Support cyber metrics development, maintenance, and reporting.
• Support cyber threat intelligence development and reporting.
• Support routine identification, development, and implementation of automation tasks.
• Help develop and implement security controls and formulate operational risk mitigations. Assist in security awareness programs.
• Engage on a range of security issues including architectures, firewalls, electronic data traffic, and network access.
• Research, evaluate, and recommend new security tools, techniques, and technologies in alignment with IT security strategy.
• Use COTS/GOTS and custom tools and procedures to scan, identify, contain, mitigate, and remediate vulnerabilities and intrusions.
• Assist in implementing required government policy such as NIST and recommend process tailoring.
• Perform analyses to validate established security requirements and recommend additional safeguards.
• Periodically review system audits and monitor corrective actions until closure.
• Provide briefings to senior staff as needed.

Experience Requirements

• Programming with Python, C++, or JavaScript.
• Experience with SIEM technologies, preferably Microsoft Sentinel. Experience with other SIEM tools is acceptable.
• Knowledge of IDS/IPS, firewalls, and anti-virus/anti-malware technologies.
• Incident response across identification, protection, detection, response, and recovery.
• Vulnerability management.
• Timely response to O365 and Proofpoint email security alerts and to EDR alerts in CrowdStrike.
• Adherence to SOC standard operating procedures.
• Ability to work midnight or swing shifts, weekends, holidays, and adjust to shift rotations with notice.
• Clearance eligibility for County Live Scan, Child Support Services background, and County Probation background.
• Certification such as Security+ or GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC) or similar.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Zero years of related experience required. Two or more years of related experience are highly preferred. Additional experience may substitute for education.
