Job summary

The State of Connecticut - CT Technical Education and Career System seeks a paraeducator at J.M. Wright Technical High School to support certified staff and help students succeed.

This 10-month, 12-month-paid position offers daily student-facing support in classrooms and shops, data collection, and collaboration on accommodations and behavior plans. Under supervision of a certified teacher, you will reinforce instruction, assist with progress tracking, and help create a safe, inclusive learning

Qualifications

• Two years of college training or an Associate’s degree.
• Experience with students with disabilities is preferred.
• Knowledge of IEP processes is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic, technical, and organizational support to students individually and in groups.
• Assist certified staff with instructional activities, classroom preparation, assessments, and data collection.
• Support classroom management and help maintain safe, orderly learning environments.
• Supervise students in classrooms, shops, and common spaces during school activities.
• Promote safe practices and proper use of tools, equipment, and learning materials.
• Support students with diverse learning needs, including IEP accommodations as directed.

Position Highlights

• 10-month position, paid over 12 months
• Monday-Friday, Paid Holidays
• Eligibility to apply for available stipend positions as identified in the SVFT bargaining unit contract

Your Role

In this position, the selected incumbent will support certified staff in delivering educational services and programming to students, provide individualized and small-group assistance that strengthens learning, and contribute to student success.

Under the direction of a certified teacher, the paraeducator reinforces instruction in academic classrooms, shops; implements accommodations and modifications as written in a student's IEP or behavior intervention plan; collects data on student progress and behavior; supports student organization, independence, and self-regulation consistent with school-wide expectations; assists with supervision and shop safety practices; and provides personal care assistance where a student's plan requires it.

Paraeducators work under the supervision of certified staff and do not serve as the teacher or deliver initial instruction.

Special Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of college training or an Associate’s degree.

NOTE: College training is calculated on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

A passing score on the ParaPro Assessment may be substituted for the General Experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience supporting students with disabilities in a high school setting.
• Experience implementing Individualized Education Program (IEP) related accommodations.
• Experience communicating with students and parents using technology such as PowerSchool.
• Experience with behavior support plans, de-escalation, or crisis response training.
• Experience supporting students in inclusive or co-taught classrooms.
• Ability to support students across both academic and shop settings.
