Job summary

St. Olaf College is seeking a Men’s and Women’s Assistant Track and Field Coach, Throws. This part-time role in the Athletics department supports instruction, practice planning, and student-athlete development for the throws program.

Reporting to the Head Coaches, you will assist with training plans, meet strategies, and recruitment of diverse student-athletes, while traveling with teams and maintaining adherence to NCAA bylaws.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 1+ year of coaching experience at high school, club, or college level.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree and 3+ years of college coaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in instruction, practice planning, and advisement of track & field throws.
  • Support head coaches in training programs and practice planning.
  • Coach student-athletes during practices and competitions for throws.
  • Mentor student-athletes for athletic, emotional, and social growth.
  • Attend competitions and assist with meet strategies.
  • Assist with meet prep, setup, and day-of needs.
  • Assist home competition management and equipment needs.
  • Assist in actively recruiting qualified student-athletes and execute recruiting plan.
  • Maintain communication with potential student-athletes and coaches.
  • Participate in campus visits with prospective student-athletes.
  • Support diversity and inclusive community.
  • Comply with NCAA Division III, MIAC, and St. Olaf Bylaws.

Job description

Men’s and Women’s Assistant Track and Field Coach, Throws

Department: Athletics.

Classification: Exempt.

Work Schedule: This position is a part-time role within the athletic department. It requires a flexible work schedule; nights and weekends are necessary, and traveling with teams is required.

Work Location: On Campus.

Salary: $8,500.

Essential Job Duties
  • Assist in all aspects of the instruction, practice planning, and advisement of the men’s and women’s track & field throws programs.
  • Assist the head coaches in implementing training programs and practice plans.
  • Provide quality coaching and instruction to student-athletes during pre-season, in-season practices, and competitions to throws athletes during indoor and outdoor track seasons.
  • Mentor student-athletes to promote athletic, emotional, and social growth.
  • Attend all competitions and assist with meet strategies.
  • Assist with meet preparation, meet set-up, and meet day needs.
  • Assist with home competition management, and equipment needs/care.
  • Assist in actively recruiting qualified student-athletes.
  • Assist in the execution of the recruiting plan with both head coaches that targets a diverse group of potential student-athletes who can achieve high levels of success academically, socially, and athletically.
  • Evaluate potential student athletes regularly, maintain consistent, effective, and honest communication with potential student athletes, and maintain contact with various coaches.
  • Participate in campus visits with prospective student-athletes in a professional manner.
  • Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
  • Comply with all NCAA Division III, MIAC, and St. Olaf Bylaws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach or athletic department.
Supervision Received and Exercised
  • Reports to the Head Men’s Track and Field Coach and Head Women’s Track and Field.
  • This position supervises student workers.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 1+ year of high school, club, or college coaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s Degree.
  • Experience: 3+ years of college coaching experience.
