Summary of Position

The incumbent will be responsible for managing the thrift store in Grand Rapids, MN. This is a full-time exempt position with a workweek expectation of 40 hours per week; however, additional hours may be required at times. This position directly supervises store workers and volunteers and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Salvation Army policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and one year supervisory and retail management experience.
  • Must be able to accept supervision and work independently or with a team.
  • Computer literate, proficient in Microsoft products, Lotus Notes, and database programs.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with customers, volunteers, staff, supervisors, service unit members, and supporting organizations.
  • Willing to support the philosophy, goals, mission, and objectives of The Salvation Army.
  • Possess a valid MN Driver's License, have a good driving record, meet MVR qualifications, and pass background check.
  • Understand that Safe From Harm provisions apply upon employment start and complete Safe From Harm training within 30 days.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage personnel actions, including hiring, disciplining, and terminating staff, subject to final review by the Divisional Finance Board.
  • Maintain a positive work environment, resolve conflicts professionally, and ensure respectful interactions.
  • Handle financial duties such as sorting and opening mail, verifying receipts, endorsing checks, preparing bank deposits, and maintaining financial records.
  • Ensure cashier duties are covered, provide customer assistance, and handle complaints professionally.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff and volunteers, develop staff schedules, and approve timesheets.
  • Oversee inventory management, including sorting, tagging, pricing, and merchandising donated items.
  • Report supplies needed, maintain inventory records, and assist in emergency situations using store inventory.
  • Identify and report maintenance and safety issues, and promote a safe and clean store environment.
  • Facilitate team meetings, participate in training, and represent The Salvation Army in community activities.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to ensure efficient store operations.
