Job Description

Location: The Salvation Army St. Marys Service Center

About this opportunity:

Assist store customers with donations, selections, and purchases. Operate and maintain the cash register, respond to customer inquiries, keep store displays clean and organized, ensure the security of store items and cash, participate in unloading trucks, process and store items according to policies, accept donations, help move furniture to the sales floor, and maintain the warehouse, dock, and parking lot.

Key responsibilities:

1. Assist customers with sales, operate cash register, handle cash and receipts, prepare bank deposits, and maintain cash register security.
2. Maintain sales records, tax forms, social service vouchers, and prepare sales reports as needed.
3. Keep the cash register area tidy and stocked.
4. Explain store policies to customers and respond to questions to ensure a positive shopping experience.
5. Assist with donations, direct customers to loading areas, and prepare tax receipts.
6. Arrange and display items neatly, rotate stock, and return items to proper locations.
7. Answer the store phone courteously, provide information, and schedule donation pickups if needed.
8. Clean display racks, floors, windows, and mirrors to keep the store inviting.
9. Open and close the store according to schedule.
10. Unload donations carefully, ensure proper placement, and maintain the dock area.
11. Bale rags daily as needed and keep the warehouse organized.
12. Maintain furniture and incoming materials, assist in moving furniture, and load purchased items for customers.
13. Keep parking lot and other areas clean and orderly.
14. Assist with pricing and tagging items and participate in disaster relief projects as needed.
15. Clean windows monthly.

What we are looking for in you:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Retail experience preferred but not required; equivalent training or experience considered.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must meet attendance requirements, communicate effectively in English, operate a cash register, perform routine math, and handle physical tasks including lifting heavy items (50-100+ lbs.), walking, standing, kneeling, or squatting. Work environment includes store and warehouse conditions with noise, dust, and dirt.
