Job summary

The Salvation Army thrift store in Great Bend, KS is seeking a part-time associate to handle and price merchandise, ring up sales, and maintain clean, well-organized displays. You will assist customers, process payments, and support store operations in a team environment.

Prior retail experience is preferred but not required. A high school diploma or GED is preferred. This is a part-time role with duties as assigned by the thrift store manager or corps officer.

Job Objective

Handling and pricing of merchandise for sale. Rings up merchandise, totals bill, accepts payments and makes changes for customers in thrift store by performing the following duties .

Essential Functions

• Process merchandize efficiently following the sta ndards set by the Store Manager


• Pricin g unmarked items of merchandise


• Hang clothing as instructed


• Stock racks, shelves, counters or tables with merchandise


• Cle ans shelves, counters or tables


• Ring up purchases for customers


• Operates cash register, accep ting payment and making change


• Wraps or bag merchandise for customers


• Help set up displays and arranges merchandise to promote sales


• M aintain good customer relations by giving prompt, co urteous assistance to customers


• Follow through on rot ating and outdating merchandise


• Insure proper use of assigned equipment


• Assure that the building and grounds are kept clean of trash a nd donated items


• Maintain and clean restrooms, f oyer, trash, windows and floors


• Report complaints, damages and concern to management


• Support th e mission of The Salvation Army


• Other duties as assigned by the thrift store manager or corps officer

Minimum Qualifications

Education : High School diploma or GED preferred .

Experience : R etail experience is preferred but not required

• Ability to effectively present informa tion in one-on-one situation to customers, clients and other employees


• Ability to use basic office equipment including cash register, copy machin e, fax machine and telephone


• Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide numbers


• Ability to perform operations using units of American money


• A bility to understand and carry out instructions furnished in wri tten, oral, diagram or schedule f orm


• Abilit y to work in a team environment
