Friends of Switchpoint seeks an Assistant Thrift Store Manager in Layton, UT to aid the Thrift Store Manager with daily operations, donations processing, merchandising, and customer service excellence. This full-time role supports staff and volunteers, drives store performance, and helps maximize revenue for agency programs.

The position emphasizes supervising staff and volunteers, maintaining displays, and ensuring safe, welcoming guest experiences while contributing to community impact.

Formación

• Ability to sit 3-7 hours per day with frequent walking, standing, bending, squatting, pulling and pushing.
• Keyboard at a computer for up to 4 hours per day.
• Occasionally lift items up to 30 pounds for distances up to 25 feet and carry up to 30 pounds.

• Assist Thrift Store Manager with daily store operations including opening and closing procedures.
• Help oversee donation processing: sorting, tagging, pricing, displaying and organizing merchandise.
• Ensure merchandise is rotated, displayed attractively, and dispose of unusable items.
• Maintain safe, clean, and organized store displays and stock levels.
• Support cashiering and accurate sales transactions using the point-of-sale system.

PURPOSE: The Assistant Thrift Store Manager supports the Thrift Store Manager in the daily operations of the thrift store. This position assists with supervising staff and volunteers, processing donations, merchandising inventory, and ensuring excellent customer service. The Assistant Manager helps maintain efficient store operations to maximize revenue that supports agency programs and services.

Requirements

Job Responsibilities:

Store Operations & Merchandising

• Assist the Thrift Store Manager with daily store operations including opening and closing procedures.
• Help oversee the processing of donated items including sorting, tagging, pricing, displaying, and organizing merchandise.
• Ensure merchandise is rotated regularly and that excess or unusable items are disposed of appropriately.
• Maintain attractive, organized, and safe displays throughout the store.
• Assist with maintaining inventory levels and stocking merchandise as needed.
• Support the use of point-of-sale systems and ensure accurate processing of sales transactions.
• Help maintain store cleanliness, organization, and safety standards.

Staff & Volunteer Support

• Assist in supervising thrift store staff and volunteers during shifts.
• Help train volunteers and new staff on store procedures and customer service expectations.
• Support the scheduling of staff and volunteers to ensure adequate coverage during operating hours.
• Provide guidance and support to staff and volunteers to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
• Communicate concerns, successes, or performance issues to the Thrift Store Manager.

Customer Service

• Provide excellent customer service to all guests, donors, and community members.
• Ensure staff and volunteers maintain professional and welcoming interactions with customers.
• Address customer concerns and assist in resolving issues when they arise.
• Promote a positive shopping and donation experience for all visitors.

Financial & Cash Handling

• Assist with accurate cash handling, register balancing, and adherence to store financial procedures.
• Follow agency policies regarding petty cash and store revenue handling.
• Support tracking of sales data and other operational metrics as requested.

Marketing & Store Presentation

• Assist with organizing and displaying merchandise to enhance store appearance and encourage sales.
• Support promotions, sales events, and community outreach efforts that increase store visibility.
• Monitor inventory trends and assist in recommending merchandising improvements.

Qualifications:

• Requires ability to sit up to 3-7 hours per day with frequent walking, standing, bending, squatting, pulling and pushing.
• Requires ability to keyboard at computer for up to 4 hours per day.
• Occasionally may be required to lift items up to 10 pounds to a height up to 6 feet and 11-25 pounds to a height of 3 feet.
• Occasionally may be required to carry items up to 30 pounds for distances up to 25 feet.
