Catholic Health is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our Thoracic Surgery team. The PA will provide comprehensive preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care, serving as first or second assistant during open, MIS, VATS, and robotic procedures.

The role requires NY PA licensure, NCCPA certification, and strong surgical experience with a focus on compassionate care. The position offers a full-time schedule in a high-quality surgical program emphasizing robotic and minimally invasive

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NCCPA certification.
• Current New York State Physician Assistant license and applicable registrations.
• Thoracic or cardiothoracic surgical experience strongly preferred.
• Surgical experience preferred.
• Demonstrated first-assist experience and appropriate surgical credentialing.
• Robotic and/or minimally invasive surgical experience highly preferred.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification.
• Excellent clinical assessment, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative surgical environment.
• Strong commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
• Demonstrated interest in developing advanced clinical and technical expertise in thoracic surgery.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative care for thoracic surgical patients.
• Obtain detailed medical histories and perform physical examinations.
• Review diagnostic studies and assist in treatment planning.
• Serve as first or second surgical assistant during open, MIS, VATS, and robotic procedures.
• Participate in robotic thoracic procedures as training allows.
• Coordinate preoperative evaluations and medical optimization.
• Participate in inpatient rounds and manage postoperative care.
• Manage chest tubes, drains, wounds, medications postoperatively.
• Provide outpatient preop and postop follow-up care.
• Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery, and activity restrictions.
• Facilitate communication and continuity of care among care teams.
