Job description

ProCure On-Demand is a public benefit corporation, founded by transplant surgeons. Our mission is to increase the quantity and quality of organs available for transplantation by offering exceptional surgical organ recovery and logistical services. ProCure’s team is a group of talented professionals, diverse in skills and experiences, but like-minded in our commitment to quality, collaboration, and innovation. Do you enjoy the challenge of organ recovery, and the satisfaction of offering much-needed support to your transplant colleagues? Would you like to become a partner in our efforts to revolutionize the field of organ recovery? If so, please get in touch with us. We are looking for both Full-Time and Network (Per Diem) Thoracic Organ Recovery Surgeons to support our cases across the US. To learn more about ProCure, visit www.procureodx.com.

About this role (Full-Time)

Full-time thoracic surgeons at ProCure are committed to revolutionizing the field of thoracic organ recovery in the United States, alongside our team of coordinators, thoracic surgeons, abdominal surgeons, perfusionists, and operations specialists. You will support your implanting surgical colleagues by providing the full spectrum of thoracic procurement procedures (brain-dead heart and lung, DCD lung, and NRP), using each case as an opportunity to mentor trainees, advance research, and generally improve the quality and professionalism of the organ recovery system. Outside of the operating room, full-time surgeons hold important positions of leadership with focus on professional education, operations and logistics, informatics, transplant policy, and the many other components of ProCure’s mission. Compensation is comprised of a base salary with additional fees for each case completed, and overall case volume targets are set to maintain exceptional total compensation while allowing a healthy balance of operative and non-operative pursuits.

Essential Functions (Full-Time)

  • Independent evaluation and recovery of thoracic organs (heart, lung, heart-lung) for transplantation.
  • Education of residents/fellows in thoracic recovery in their roles as paid assistants.
  • Development and continuous review of ProCure’s surgical recovery practices.
  • Multi-disciplinary collaboration within ProCure in support of education, quality, process improvement, and other critical aspect of ProCure’s operations.
  • Direct interaction with clients, providing key insight into ProCure’s ability to support their needs.
  • Recruitment and support of regional “network” thoracic recovery surgeons (contracted and credentialed surgeon who provide organ recovery services through ProCure on an ad hoc basis)

About this role (Per-Diem)

As a network recovery surgeon, you will join a growing group of practicing cardiothoracic surgeons across the country who use their training and skill to provide local/regional on-demand heart and lung recovery services for organ procurement organizations and transplant programs nationwide. Your schedule and availability are entirely self-determined and should not conflict with your clinical practice. There is no pressure to accept any case, and there is no minimum service obligation. Come join our team to increase organ utilization, improve transplant outcomes, and maintain your organ recovery skills while being financially rewarded on your own schedule. Compensation is highly competitive and significantly higher than national cardiothoracic locum rates.

Essential Functions (Per-Diem)

  • Independent evaluation and recovery of thoracic organs (heart, lung, heart-lung) for transplantation.
  • Education of residents/fellows in thoracic organ recovery in their roles as paid assistants (optional).
  • Participation in ProCure process improvement and quality assurance initiatives pertaining to cases performed.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO degree and completion of an accredited cardiothoracic surgery residency or fellowship. For non-US-trained applicants, we welcome equivalent medical degrees and thoracic surgical training.
  • Active US state medical license. (Full-Time)
  • Active ACIN credentials for heart and lung recovery.
  • Facility and comfort with independent organ recovery from brain-dead donors, at a minimum, though experience with donation after cardiac death (DCD) is in high demand.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills; ability to work calmly under pressure; consummate professionalism in every aspect.

Job Location: Multiple locations available for Full-Time. Anywhere in the US for Per-Diem.
