Syracuse University seeks an innovative thinker, inspiring teacher, and thoughtful mentor to fill the endowed Thomas and Colleen Wilmot Chair in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE).
The holder of this endowed chair will aim to build local, regional, national, and international collaborations to address grand challenges in their field. These collaborations may support research, technological innovations, entrepreneurial opportunities, and shaping public policy and administration. Candidates who can leverage existing strengths in CEE and the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems are especially encouraged to apply.
The College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) has a strategic plan to develop research excellence in emerging technologies, resilient systems, materials engineering, and engineering for human well-being. The plan emphasizes educational excellence through experiential education, innovative curricula, and global educational experiences, aiming to position ECS as a premier college with distinctive research and educational programs embedded with diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility principles.
The CEE department includes 15 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 2 full-time teaching faculty, 2 professors of practice, and 2 staff members, serving over 250 undergraduates and approximately 65 graduate students. It offers ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering, three Master’s programs, and a Ph.D. program. Faculty engage in interdisciplinary research and collaborations within the university and externally with industry, government, and NGOs.
The department seeks to expand its interdisciplinary activities with a faculty member who can integrate analytical technologies and specialty areas into multi-scale civil and environmental systems, complement existing research activities.
The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate (Ph.D. preferred) in engineering or a closely related field, with a record of academic research excellence meriting appointment at the level of full Professor.
