Job summary

The-Children is seeking a dedicated Security Officer for third shift (11 pm–7 am), responsible for monitoring museum and remote site security, responding to emergencies, and assisting visitors after hours. Roles include crowd control, safety checks, and reporting incidents to the Shift Manager.

Applicants should have strong customer service and security experience, CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must have proven experience in customer service and security with knowledge of emergency protocols.
• CPR/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Excellent communication and ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Proficient data entry and cash reconciliation skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor security cameras, computers, and systems in the Control Room and museum after hours.
• Route and report emergencies to Shift Manager; follow written protocols and staff guidelines.
• Maintain visitor and campus security through observation and timely reporting.
• Lead in emergency protocols and evacuations; assist visitors and staff during drills.
• Maintain attendance and adhere to museum standards; stay informed about daily operations.
• Represent VR and Security in various duties during events as needed.

Job description

SCHEDULE:

11 pm-7 am (third shift) 5 days a week

REPORTS TO:

Security 2nd and 3rd Shift Manager

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure the integrity and functionality of the security systems within the museum and remote site locations through consistently monitoring the cameras, computers, and other systems within the Control Room and throughout the Museum after hours.
• Monitors and routes emergency calls from within and outside the museum campus. Contacts Shift Manager in the event of a problem or concern. Adheres to written protocols and professional expectations for oversight of staff, contractor and visitor pedestrian and vehicular traffic after hours and before opening..
• Ensures visitor and campus security through observation, the timely reporting of concerns or incidents, providing crowd control, performing emergency assistance (basic first aid, fire extinguishers and evacuation/relocation), reuniting lost children.
• Provides leadership in emergency protocols for evacuations and relocation and assists visitors and staff in the event of an emergency. Participates in the Safety Warden program and ensures emergency response for all emergency situations and drills.
• Maintains a solid attendance record and adhere to the Standards and Expectations manual at all times.
• Proactively seeks up to date information to remain knowledgeable of museum daily operations and activities, way-finding and emergency protocols.
• May be asked to represent the VR and Security department through the execution of job duties and assignments, such as garage greeter, cross walk, parking assistant, Security check-in and dock during events.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have proven experience in customer service and security with knowledge of emergency protocols.
• Must be CPR/First Aid certified or have the ability to be certified in 6 months.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must enjoy constant interaction with people and have the ability to communicate effectively and in a positive manner, even under high-stress situations.
• Must possess computer data entry skills and the ability to handle and reconcile cash.
• Must maintain a positive working relationship with a large team of diverse staff and volunteers.
• Must be able to work weekends and available on holidays and evening shifts.
• Must be able to quickly move throughout the museum and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to review daily handouts and email communication. Must be able to interface with computer monitor screen.
• Must be able to handle communications by telephone contact, one-on-one conversations and public presentations.
• Required to be able to handle heavy communications by one-on-one conversations and public presentations.
• Must be able to handle moderate keyboard and calculator use for administering ticket sales and moderate paperwork processing.
• Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to personally negotiate getting self into and out of the building without trouble and assist visitors in doing so, as well.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time, up to 8 hours per day, and work outside in all weather conditions.
