Job Description

Prepares and cooks food items according to recipes, and under guidance from senior staff and/or Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Prepares food items according to recipes, mixing ingredients and adding condiments with guidance and assistance.
  2. Peels, washes, trims, and cuts vegetables. Prepares salad platters for patient and cafeteria meal service.
  3. Cooks breakfast food items. Assists in preparation of lunch and dinner, including short order/grill cooking and various dessert items.
  4. Ensures acceptability of product temperature and presentation based upon established Quality management procedures.
  5. Portions food products according to established portion control guidelines.
  6. Monitors food usage and anticipates "run outs" during meal service.
  7. Cleans respective work area. Maintains a high standard of sanitary practices in food preparation.
  8. Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Graduate of vocational high school (major in foods preparation), preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in preparing large quantities of food, or two (2) years of applicable apprentice training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.
  • Excellent working knowledge of cooking and food preparation equipment. Familiarity with seasonings and cooking time, preferred.
