Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Thermal Sciences Associate or Senior Associate for our Thermal Sciences Practice in Los Angeles, CA. In this role you will apply fundamental engineering and scientific techniques to solve challenging, interdisciplinary problems involving fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and combustion.

You will grow in technical consulting, building deep areas of expertise and serving clients effectively.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering or similar with fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics expertise.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States; no sponsorship needed.
• Experience in experimental design, apparatus construction, instrumentation, data acquisition and analysis.
• Willingness to travel regionally and internationally (>15%).

Responsibilities

• Plan experimental investigations and conduct laboratory tests.
• Research published literature to inform projects.
• Conduct field inspections and collect data.
• Perform engineering calculations and analyze data.
• Prepare proposals and technical reports; present findings to clients.
• Manage projects and meet deadlines efficiently.
• Communicate effectively with team members and clients.
• Translate technical conclusions for diverse audiences including engineering, the legal, business and industry.
